go Uni after poly, how they choose who can go Uni?
i want to go local uni like ntu or nus after poly finish liao
but i want to know how they filter out who can go and who cannot
i heard that it is 10% of cohort
but how is "10% of cohort" decided?
is it:
top 10% in every poly,
OR
top 10% nationally? as in better poly get high percentage of allowing ppl coming in. while louya pok poly , lesser ppl can go. so different poly get a different percentage quota
if the 1st method is the case, then i can purposely choose a poly where i know there are a lot of slackers who dont study well and then easier to contract and get top 10%. typically a poly with high cut off point
pls dont talk about going to JC case. it's not for me. -
its actually case-by-case basis really.
and depends on ur results, cca record, and o lvl results.
so yeah.....
and which course; diploma relevant or not. -
Nowadays the criteria has added in the variable of luck and cca points.

not strictly top 10%, but if your grades lies at least in A-B average, that should be able to get in (usually if you get that sort of grades you're more or less in that top 10% zone)

coz louya pok poly got not so hardworking students then easier to get A -

Don't worry about others. Just worry about yourself and you'll do fine. -
Depends on what course and whether you want to do an unrelated course when you go uni...
If you choose to do an unrelated when you go uni, then your results must be good... otherwise no chance of entering.
If you want to do a related, make sure your GPA is at least 3... good CCA record also...
Attitude must be correct also... choose polys with high cut-off points in order to get high GPA... despicable in my opinion.

the 10% thingy is not true one lah.... not all poly students who enter uni fall into the top 10%
they also look at cca, and if u were to choose smu there's an entry interview that i believe weighs more than your grades itself
and hey, if u choose to go to a poly where u think the lousy students are, don't forget that u'll be doing projects with them too ok
anyway, i think there's no such thing as XXX poly has lousier students than YYY students one lah....the distribution should be quite even -

what about going to uni from jc? is there 100% chance of entering even without good cca record?

Good results + good CCA record... most likely confirm a place.
There will always be exceptions, just like a friend of mine... -
There are no lousy poly.There are smart students in each of them,even in the course with the highest cut off point.

top 5% guarantee a placing..
top 10% depends on your O level & CCA & which course u wish to go in uni.
less than top 10%... with good O Level... maybe
less than top 10%... with poor O Level... maybe SMU may consider cos there is other tests like interviews and essay writing. but i think nus & ntu is rather hard... -

Wah need CCA? What about no CCA? If I get into poly, I plan to join the 'go home' club leh.

the moment you have your diploma you can go to uni....local unis accept those at top 10%, if you are not then apply to overseas ones...sure accepted......i know have many who had average results, most go aussie and do well in the uni there..and usually enjoy exemption from 1st year...

NUS don't need CCA anymore...

to go to univeristy, thats NUS, NTU, SMU from poly..
75% results from poly
20% resullts from O levels
5% CCA
then they come out some score and start ranking the applicants.
aka something to do with ""cut off point""
if cannot go in this way, theres backdoors like excelling in CCA..
but, the standard GPA 3.5 and above is very true

almost 10 years ago, my friend graduated with merit, she got into NTU..a chinese girl, tall tall, very chio one..dunno what happen to her now...she is so chio, and not haolian...where to find this type!
