ST 3 Feb 2007: Effects of Global Warming Unstoppable
Scientists just released a 21-page report at Paris Climate Summit 2007, and the message to the world is clear:
Global Warming is now Real and caused by Mankind
Temperatures will rise by 1.8 deg C to 4.0 deg C
Sea levels could rise between 7 and 23 inches by the end of the century
(These predictions are already criticized as too optimistic by some scientists)
Stronger Storms, Dryer Droughts and more Floods are expected
And some cities will be submerged: eg Bangladesh, Silicon Valley, Florida.

For those people who think we can do nothing, I strongly urge you to see the movie "An inconvenient truth" by al gore, and it may just shatter your false sense of security, as well as to remove your false assumptions that we can do nothing. The whole economic market is driven by consumers choice, supply and demand, and if everybody takes responsibility into their own hands and choose to buy more eco-friendly products that attribute to help combat global warming, then do you think industries will still produce products that nobody buys? It's time we need to be more responsible for our actions and to take control. It's extremely easy to say that we can do nothing, so that someone else has to take over your responsibility of doing something, doubly hard, to help save the Earth.

bring a bag when you go shopping.. use fewer plastic bags..
in fact, if it's not necessary, don't use plastic bags... i go buy something, the things are in little plastic bags, which is in a bigger plastic bag, and the checkout chick puts it in a bigger plastic bag...
and a lot of other things too... turn off your airconditioner when not in use, or use a timer...

1) Tornados and Hurricanes
Recent florida storm was so devastating that a church, that was built to withstand 150mph winds, was totally destroyed.
And things will only get worse.
2) Food and water supplies.
Fish supply are already expected to end in 50years.
Crops supplies will be affected.
Sydney is already heading towards permanent drought state.
The simple fact is, human, is just part of the whole eco-system.
And right now, every sporean on avg is adding 10 TONNES of CO2 each year,
from the electricity u use and car u drive. -

more than electricity usage, waste products processing are also adding greenhouses gases into the atmosphere.
The world cannot sustain with current model.
We took so much of the environment and dump so much into it
to cause such great imbalances.
Arctic melting, floods and animal extinctions are only the beginning.
And its all happening within right now, and accelerating fast. -

In China alone, over half of the electricity come from coal-fired power plants,
also called "dirty power" as its adds so much CO2 and pollutions.
Which is why everyone is pointing fingers to China right now.
Same for most developing countries.
Thus the solution right now is to cut power-usage and
also find better alternative power sources, eg biofuel, solar, wind, hydro-power.
Well, in simple terms, the PC, lightings, air-con u use, all come from BURNING gas and coals, hundreds , thousands of millions of tonnes of it in Singapore alone each year (im guessing this figure).

situation very very serious for everyone in the world.
Its the job of every nation (developed, developing), every policy maker, and also every citizen of the world.
I urge everyone to try do ur part, and also help other more aware of it.
Here are some simple things u can do to help:
-use less aircon (increase ur aircon set tempurature)
-off ur lights when u are not in around.
Computer usage:
-use laptop instead of PC (80 percent less power)
-enable standby mode.
-if u are using desktop, do not overclock.
try underclock or using 2.5inch harddisk (30-50 percent less power)
Others:
-switch to flourescent light if u are using light-bulbs (75percent less power)
-buy hybrid cars, if u considering buying new car.
