Why Mount Elizabeth Hospital transfer critically injured construction worker?
Hi,
Just would like to highlight something which happened this Monday (29/1/7) around noon time. My friend was working in Tan Tock Seng hospital (TTSH) at that time and he saw a critically injured construction worker being rushed into the A&E department.
He was transferred from Mount Elizabeth Hospital (Mount E). The construction worker had fallen from 7th floor to 5th floor and then to the ground floor. His college rushed him to the nearest hospital, which was Mount E.
He was put on drip when transferred to Tan Tock Seng hospital.
But Why wasn't he treated or operated immediately?
Is it because he's a lowly paid construction worker from China and so he was transferred over?
Or is it that his employer specifically instructed that?
Transfer should not be done unless forced by circumstances
I'm posting this because I feel that such things 've to be made known.
Updated: I was too harsh in my accusation initially so I have edited my post. The hospital has contacted me and told me that they'll investigate the matter. However, before that, I should not be accusing them. I apologize for that. I was also told that it is current policy in Singapore to have the Singapore Civil Defence Force and re-structured hospitals' Accident and Emergency services attend to all trauma and accident cases, instead of private hospital.
PS: The construction worker is now in the high dependency ward (ie bet normal & intensive). It seems that his life is still NOT out of danger yet. -

Private hospitals are for profit; not for showcase of humanity. -

Depending on the initial assessment of the patient, there might be needs for Mount E to transfer the patient to another hospital.
I wouldn't agree with you that Mount E transferred him out because that the patient have the potential of being unable to pay because he's lowly paid as ALL CONSTRUCTION SITES WORKERS are being covered by insurance policy which covers work site injuries. -

We don't really know everything that's going on in there, so lets not shoot our mouths off before we get all the facts. Are we not sure that the employer is not behind the transfer at all?
In hospitals there's such a thing known as triage, where they sort out the different patients according to the various situtations and decide what to do with them.
There are certainly money reasons behind the transfer to TTSH, but I don't think money is the most important thing. If the worker was really in life-threatening danger no doubt the Mount E people would have gotten started on him ASAP, the damage of refusing treatment to a dying patient is more harm to Mount E then the money is saves.
But obviously it was not the case, they managed to stabilize the patient and while he was injured, he was obviously in no immediate danger of dying or else the transfer would not be possible. When it comes to that, it's up to the employer to decide where the patient will be treated and I'm not surprised why they don't really like the idea of Mount E... which isn't exactly cheap.
Good call or bad call? That's up for debate... but it's another thing to pin it on the doctors. -

hospitals things hor u all must really b hospitalized then know.
last time i stomach infection or something.. went to a hospital and need to wait for 3 hrs jus to get diagnose.. then after that still need to wait. then when i was on the bed i can't even get rest.. got 1 uncle kpkb say want go smoke, then jus beside me got this auntie dunno why, keep yelling pain. THen somemore the air con so cold me blanket also not enough.
Seems like most patinets over there keep calling the nurse and doctors.

quarkz your friend must be one of the nsf paramedics at the a&e department who does not know what is going on only to come to baseless conclusions.
If you are really concerned about the injured worker and the standard of care he received please write to the straits times forum or write a complaint letter directly to mt e instead of tarnishing their reputation in this online forum behind your pseudonym. None of the hospitals in singapore, or probably anywhere else in the world, would reject a critically ill patient. -
