i was boarding the bus 74, wat school i wont say, but secondary school students. Above average school. Supposedly good school students: You know sometihng? I cant stand those NA girls, sprouting chinese as if in a market. Cant they show more class?
Another supposedly good school students : Come on! They are just a bunch of china speaking wantons, they wont be able to grasp the eng language tt easily, tts why must use chi.
The whole thing went on and on saying how silly issit to speak chinese and its a 'auntie language'.
Words might not be exactly the same, but the meaning behind and intention remains.
The worst thing is tt they were comparing how low marks they got in their chi test! And it seems the lower it is, the happier they are!

its best to master both.
can't stand people trying to jia kan tang and in the end stumble upon words that they have to translate in mandarin. as well as those who speak in mandarin but likes to add a bit of kan tang to act elite. -
sorry to say this but i am one of these culprits.. in the past, i used to be mannerly etc, thinking of good phrases every year to use.. but my relatives have been stingy and really freeload off mine.. long story.. kind of hate them now.. so i refuse to speak to them.. this year, my mum's eldest sister refused to give me an angpow cos i refused to greet her.. well we do have our own pains.. but sheesh i dun think she deserves the greeting.. call me disrespectful but hey, this is life.. i dun like you cos you're a freeloader.. or stuff like that.. many reasons.. well cos i grew up too i guess, but i'm not really a sociable person.. so yea.. besides, why go under my morals for 2 bucks.. sheesh..

in my opinion no matter what is, she's still your elderly and you got to respect that. though you might not need to stomach this now but wait till you are in a situation you don't like yet you have to do (probably in the military).

Usually to piss them off, use some Singlish, Chinese, Malay and dialects to screw them. 
I screwed my sis and her bunch of kentang friends this way. -

Ordering lunch in HK in Cantonese, having dinner in Beijing in Mandarin, then flying to Bilbao for a artist's exhibition and speaking in Spanish, then heading off for a seminar in New York where you need English and Spanish to get by. -

I was never good at speaking Mandarin and years of trying to learn it only resulted in deep agony for myself, however I grew to realise that it's important to speak as many languages as one can, so I kept on trying.
Right, it's still half-baked though.
When I was young, I figured that speaking English here, and speaking Hokkien and some Malay in Brunei and Malaysia was enough to get me by.
I still don't consider Mandarin my mother tongue. As far as I am concerned, my ancestral dialects are Hokkien and Cantonese. Mandarin is a socio-political construct of the triumphant Communist Party of China in 1949. -
i find mandarin a great language.. beautiful.. my friends who think this way are all incapable of using that language well.. i'm lucky to be blessed with decent lingual skills =)
