I hate setting tests and exam papers. I hate this task not because it is time-consuming, but because of the nit-picking that inevitably follows in the vetting of the paper.Seriously, I know the discussion of my current thesis will hang on these little stuff.
"You should use Arial font!"
"The dividing line between the two questions is too thick!"
"You need to insert the commas over here! The world will collapse if you do not do so!" (Look at the example below!)
Question 1) Evaluate the following
a) 1 + 1
b) 2 - 1
c) 3 + 5
Horrors upon horrors! I forgot to insert commas after "1+1" and "2-1". There is also no full-stop after "3+5". Go back and redo the paper! The exam paper will not be of O-level standard if you do not do so!
It wouldn't matter so much if I only had to do a soft-copy edit. I have to edit it on soft-copy, and then reprint it out on hard-copy for yet another round of checking. You can't imagine the number of trees that have to lose their lives over such repeated nit-picking.
Usually, before I sleep, I would enjoy either a good book, or a nice movie on my computer. What nice movie, I wonder?
