Take the latest tax filing. 8 numbers. How long does it take to crack 8 numbers?
Some systems require alphanumeric and with at least 8 letters. Most forums will make this mandatory and have scripts to check. If it doesn't match, back to registration page you go. Some websites say say only, but don't check, Hotmail, Myspace, Friendster are one of those.
Coming back to your question, it shouldn't be hard to remember passwords if you created them yourself. I usually create it based on some sentences and take a few letters here and there to make the password and add some numbers. If you want to make it harder to crack, write in 1337. Most sites allow symbols in your password nowadays.
For example this sentence: IRAS is too easy to crack, 8 numbers is all you need.
My password will be IRASitetc8noiaun2007
Complicated enough, easy to remember.
That's how I remember them. Then I will write it down on a piece of paper and burn off my previous piece of paper which contains my current password. -

For those who suggested that they only use a 'universal' password... I've got a question...?
Suppose you create a password to login to a certain new site or system. Then (commonly) that site would require you to give your e-mail account so that they can send you a 'verification e-mail'. Have you ever thought before that if your e-mail account password is the same as the new system login password, then they could have easily hacked into your e-mail account...? Not to mention that after they've done that, they coudl have quite easily check what other 'systems' or sites you might be related to and try if your password is 'universal' enough for them to gain access to the other sites or systems...? -

wats the point of a password like a8g2s3zf42s5 thats hard to remember
that program is called bruteforce
dictionary and random attack
but thats not so easy
for alphanumeric passwords i.e a to z & 0 - 9 so there are 36 possible letters per place so 36^12(lenght of pw) = 4738381338321616896 different characters possible. that many characters will normally take days if not years to crack . if use special chars like !@#%^ and CAPS, its near impossible to crack.
unless u made some1 pissed if not who will be so boliao
just need to key user id = Devil1976 and website(sgforum) to attack. however, some sites only allow 3 errors b4 they lock the account.
for online gamers there is a few key point to avoid gettin 'hacked'
1. never use the same account name and character name
2. if u d/l bots/cheats, always multi-scan for keyloggers/virus
3. use alphanumeric passwords as long as possible, use special chars and caps if the game supports.
4. use separate email for games
5. common sense i.e dont give out ur username/password/email
