i told nel i wanna have my kids study outside sg... cos i feel the system here is crazy..Originally posted by Coquitlam:It's definietly great having kids around as they bring joy to your life but I would not encourage you to have kids here for all the obvious reasons. Best thing you can do for your kids is give them an environment elsewhere...
Many of us have already left this place with no regrets and we are encouraging more to join us. No point bringing up your kids here. In fact, many of our friends have gone to north america just to give birth to their kids so that they will be treated as a citizen there. Do the right thing for your kids, migrate.
you teach your kids? i weep for them!Originally posted by shinta:i told nel i wanna have my kids study outside sg... cos i feel the system here is crazy..
learning multiplication when they just completed addition n subtraction is insane.
haiz
home schooling sounds like a very attractive choice now leh
cannot migrate.. anywhere else with temperature lower than 23 will kill my husband.Originally posted by Coquitlam:Yeah home schooling is an attractive option. I do have a friend who only belives in home schooling and will send his kids overseas for further studies in fututre. He has given up on the local system just like many of us.
I will never send my future kids to local schools here. Though it can be said that schools in north america have their own drawbacks but I'd rather put them through a system that allows them to think and question. Only when they discover things for themselves then are they truly learning.
I do encourage you to send your kids elsewhere. Just look at the recent winners of the Arena....UWC...we already knew they would win. Just look at their oratorical skills.....and their thinking caps are just great.....it just says so much about our local system....
Best thing you can do is migrate...you will find the benefits....
here its all just superficial, peel away the veneer and look what you have....best you go discover that yourself
wah so niceOriginally posted by FireAndHell:I have 2 daughters, one is doing her "O" levels this year, the other is doing her "PSLE". I don't pressure them to excel in school, neither do I provide them with additional tuition, on top of their schoolwork. It's only this year that my eldest daughter request for tuition on "E" and "A" maths to assist her, do I assign a tutor for her.
Both are doing fine in school. I suggest to my daughters to perform to their abilities, but not to go overboard. Don't have to be so stressed out just to be tops in their school. Weekends is switched off time, no studies should be performed. Weekends is for recreation, whatever they wanna do, be it outing with friends or parents. Strictly no studies.
The essence is to enjoy the time in school, enjoy the company of schoolmates, teachers, the laughter and the uniqueness of school life. School life is not about scoring As and standing shoulder to shoulder with the best in school, but to enjoy school life as it should be.
And most of all, enjoy themselves as they should be.....a child in every parents' eyes. Love and be loved.
It about teaching your child about the right values and way..Originally posted by lighthand:My personal feel is that having a child is about commitment. Just ask yourself if you are ready to commit the next 20 years of your life, to ensure your child is well brought up, no criminal records and not preg.
The education and life in Singapore is stressful, but it's up to you how much you want to push your child.....
sure or not? any link to clarify? some of my friends still in SG say Singaporean kids must die die enroll into local school, international school is out for locals.Originally posted by gerrykoh:Yes u can if u can afford the fees. My brother wanted to bring his kids back from overseas but decided not to cos they cannot adapt to the edn system here.
To have a kid, make sure you are financially able. Don't bring them to this world to suffer. Life for them is tougher & very competitive.
That's why I start saving early, buying insurance & edn. plans when they are born to see them thr uni.
