  i rmb last time when someone impt to singapore passed away, the siren (chime) sounded twice, with an interval of 5 minutes, to mark the start and end of the 5 min silence.
  
  maybe next time when someone else impt pass away, take note of the mourning time, you might hear the chime.

  ya i have heard it too...almost everyday every month...at 12 noon....and the dong dong sound very loud...and make me very hard to watch my dvd or vcd or tv...

  the "ding, ding, ding" sound at abt 12 noon i think is from church. sometimes i at home i hear it too..
  
  but the SCDF one is onli on total defence day, which they will announce every year. and they will also make announcement if they need to test it etc. so as not to cause panic / alarm among the public but seriously i can't even hear it even though it's the block behind mine.
  
  i think if really got plane breach our airspace going to drop bomb on my hse they sound the siren i also won't know. -_- so long nv upgrade their lousy siren now all the hse air con loud loud got home theatre surround sound with loud loud bass and wall thick thick with "no disturbance" mattress for good night sleep but the stupid siren technology still so old one.
