there is no 100% that ur ang pow money can cover the cost of the wedding dinner...there is a chance that U will make a loss...then how?owe credit card company(24% interest hor)?dig,borrow,steal from somewhere?
Throw ur wedding dinner only when U are sure that U can cover the costs without ang pow...then ur ang pow money will be something "extra". -

reno (7-8k inlaws pay first - course they insisted we reno.. we wanted to skip it cos the place still very nice)
note our flat is bought at valuation
our combine income just touched 3k nia no svings an all.. -

Just be realistic with everything you do. Getting married is not all about the wedding only, it's a love union between you and your partner. Because you see others have a glamorous wedding, you don't necessarily have to have a wedding like them.
Why stress yourself to save money for an expensive wedding (1 day event) instead of trying to save $$ to provide your partner a comfortable life after you're married?
Money is one of the causes of marriage breakdown. So if you really love each other, focus on how both of you can maintain a healthy and happy marriage rather than the wedding itself.
Just do what you can afford.
