1. Sunday school is taught in Mandarin in some places.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:It could be due to the following reasons...
1. Christian children go to Sunday schools and that is like English "tuition" or "extra classes".
2. Christianity was brought to Singapore by the British and so, mostly conducted in English and Singapore schools happen to be English schools - giving them an advantage (proficiency in the language). (I think most Christian students are poor in Chinese or average in Chinese, sort of proving that it is not super-natural.
3. Christian parents are educated (due to reasons above) and because the children have educated Children, their children benefited. If you look at children from non Christian homes but with highly educated parents, the children will do well or better than average. (again - nothing super-natural)
4. Christians are quite logical people but their "logic" is skewed, so that you will not find many cutting edge scientists or philosophers among Christians. To be able to do cutting edge science and philosophy, your logic must not be "skewed". You have to be absolutely crystal clear in your thinking.
Christians believe based on skewed logic but it is still based on some sort of logic, whereas many non-Christian religious beliefs are not based on "logic". They are pure beliefs.
Therefore, among believers, Christians have an advantage but among purely, highly "logical" people, Christians have a disadvantage because they are "tied" into their system of beliefs and are therefore restricted or if you want to use an offensive word, "delusional" in many areas.
still dare to say...post some more la...we make sure we track u down n hamtam uOriginally posted by qwerys:wahh people here now seriously angry liao!![]()
Of course there are Chinese language Sunday schools... some, the minority...Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:1. Sunday school is taught in Mandarin in some places.
2. Reasonable.
There are billingual mission schools. Maris Stella High and Catholic High were run by Marist Brothers from China. St Nicholas' Girls' school also has superb billlingualism.
But you're right, most Christians can't speak Mandarin for nuts.
3. Reasonable.
4. St Thomas Aquinas was a great philosopher. Then we have; Galileo, Pascal, Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo, St Albert the Great ; who are all great scientists and thinkers.
How then is Christian logic skewed simply because there is a belief system? Even atheists have their own belief system.
Why must I believe that the world was created in seven days? I was never taught that.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:
If you do not believe that God created the universe in seven days... how can you call yourself a Christian other than in a cultural and social context?
Really? You don't believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God and that you must take everything in the Bible literally? I must go to a Catholic church and listen to what they preach...Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Why must I believe that the world was created in seven days? I was never taught that.
No, not everything needs to be taken literally. You go cut off your hand sins it causes you to sin lor.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Really? Do Catholic churches preach doctrine during regular services? If yes, when? After / before Mass every Sunday?
Well I have heard of Christians referring to "Christian mythologies" in the Bible and that most European Christians believe in evolution....
You might be one of those "enlightened" Christians as opposed to the fundies... but I suspect that TS is referring to the fundies...
there is no absolute yes or no to the question. It depends on individuals. You post this thread huh can cause religious disharmony - some peopel may be offended. better be careful with the choice of words!!Originally posted by qwerys:U know in all those elite schools, all beri good english people one lor, and most of them came from different churches too, my brother his class like 30 out of thm are chirstians, and they always got christian concert and events one, so does that make christian smarter people?

and what about the infallibility of the Pope's teaching?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:No, not everything needs to be taken literally. You go cut off your hand sins it causes you to sin lor.
The Book of Genesis need not be taken literally. It should be seen as religious history, not factual.
Of course doctrine is preached during Mass la, that's what the homily is for.
I am not enlightened or liberal. I just use my common sense and follow what Mother Church teaches. Who better to listen to than the authors and compilers of the Holy Book itself?
tink TS never use brain when posting such thread. ah lee hsien loong very on the ball to protect religious harmony, that';s why police also very on to give warning. please for goodness sake, TS be careful with what you post!!Originally posted by laurence82:just few mths ago got one forumer kena questioned by police and let off with warning for making anti religious remarks

If you go, be prepared to sit there for at least one or one and a half hour, or may be longer. Someone invited me to witness her baptism, and I did not expect the whole thing to last 3 hours. Aiyo, I sat right till the end!!Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:I believe he will invite me to a Catholic Church...
