The thread starter just want to start a flame war. Dun have to take it so personal.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Ok... the real perspective on this...
Is that there is no real and accurate statistics on the number of real Buddhists in Singapore. What is a real Buddhist? One who has taken refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha and therefore usually has certain level of dharma knowledge in the Buddhist teachings. The other type of so called 'IC Buddhists' are usually Chinese Folk practitioners who do not even know what is Buddhism nor do they practise Buddhism.. and many of these people are the older generation many who are uneducated.
In terms of those interested in dharma, most of them are highly educated. It depends on where you looking at. There are actually quite a number of real Buddhists in Singapore, but maybe in certain parts there are more Christians than (true) Buddhists, don't know about it.
I have a track record of never taking or replying any thread personally...Originally posted by laoda99:The thread starter just want to start a flame war. Dun have to take it so personal.

2. I am not a Christian, but my Chinese sucks.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:It could be due to the following reasons...
1. Christian children go to Sunday schools and that is like English "tuition" or "extra classes".
2. Christianity was brought to Singapore by the British and so, mostly conducted in English and Singapore schools happen to be English schools - giving them an advantage (proficiency in the language). (I think most Christian students are poor in Chinese or average in Chinese, sort of proving that it is not super-natural.
3. Christian parents are educated (due to reasons above) and because the children have educated Children, their children benefited. If you look at children from non Christian homes but with highly educated parents, the children will do well or better than average. (again - nothing super-natural)
4. Christians are quite logical people but their "logic" is skewed, so that you will not find many cutting edge scientists or philosophers among Christians. To be able to do cutting edge science and philosophy, your logic must not be "skewed". You have to be absolutely crystal clear in your thinking.
Christians believe based on skewed logic but it is still based on some sort of logic, whereas many non-Christian religious beliefs are not based on "logic". They are pure beliefs.
Therefore, among believers, Christians have an advantage but among purely, highly "logical" people, Christians have a disadvantage because they are "tied" into their system of beliefs and are therefore restricted or if you want to use an offensive word, "delusional" in many areas.
Wat about other religions?Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99:2. I am not a Christian, but my Chinese sucks.
4. You can be only either one. Believer of Science, or Christ.
It really depend wheather does it have any conflict with Science Theory.Originally posted by rane:Wat about other religions?
4. You can be only either one. Believer of Science, or Christ. Not always true. Why can't Science be the work of God as well? Even though the two may seem polar, they don't contradict each other in a lot of ways.
I think so too. What i dont understand is how come whenever there is a wedding scene in the movie, it always or most of the time have to be held in the church to symbolise the event? iI dont think buddhist would go to a church to exchange rings right...Originally posted by Eric Cartman:I feel it has to do with how they treat the 2 religions on TV
