Singaporeans i think do make a a little bit more big deals about things
but for what the country can offer, lets try to be understanding
if there is more options (career wise, university wise etc)
singaporeans would most likely won't be as spoilt

imagine if singapore was like malaysia...you think it would be easy to control? we have to have a long hand of iron to control everyone..corruption and crimes are many in malaysia

look at STOMP (not to flame other forums) forum or the ST papers...ppl are complaining about small things like singaporeans doing which are a small matter ( one small report quite angered me was that a person wrote in to ST papers...
the issue was that she saw some old uncle/auntie who was picking cans and stuff to recycle and she felt that the goverment/ people should stop this kind of things happening... come on, this person does not know the reason why those uncle/auntie have to do that and she clearly does not understand the meaning of poverty )
so what i feel that singapore kids are indeed spoilt, however if u feel that my view is wrong..u can feel free to correct me -
If I were really spoiled, I will be demanding for many things like toys, sweets, games and I will get all these stuff. That is spoilt. What you demands you will get! 798 is talking about the safe environment we gets and how we are unwilling to take risk. Is that spoilt? That is only a low appetite for risk. Are you saying that the poor in Singapore are also spoilt as they don't want to take risk? Sounds irony.
Coquitlam is even absurd to suggest that our army guys consist of soft soldiers who are unable to fight. If the boys in army are really spoilt, then we wouldn't even have an army. Instead, our army would consist of several nannies pampering and looking after our army boys which you know, is not the case.
And for your point, people are complaining and complaining. But do the government just give in to every complaints and pamper us? They go for only those complaints that are reasonable and ignoring the rest of them. Well, unless my definition of spoilt is wrong, i don't see how these complaints means that Singapore are spoilt. -

3)complain about no freedom? go to US chances are u will get mug or rob. no need go that far actually. go JB enuff. more freedom what in those countries. a bit of freedom is traded for security makes a lot of sense.

Look at some other countries, they doesn't complain much because they don't have to, they just riot. -

But trying to link freedom and crime rate is absurd! Since our government is a world-class gov receving world class pay,they shall think out of the box to come to a compromise of maintaining current crime lvl while still dishing out more freedom for its citizen! Or else why shall they deserve such high pay if other countries can do it better? -

Violent crime on the rise in the US: FBI
WASHINGTON - Violent crime rose for the second year running in 2006 across the United States, the FBI reported on Monday, in a worrying trend overturning more than a decade of successful crime-fighting efforts.
The annual report released on Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) showed that violent crime - murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault - rose by 1.3 perc ent between January and December of 2006, after a 2.3 per cent increase in 2005. Robberies were up a steep six per cent.
However preliminary figures, compiled from law enforcement agencies across the country, found that property crimes - including burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle thefts - were down last year by 2.9 per cent.
The crime data is compiled by law enforcement agencies across the United States, and then submitted to federal authorities for analysis.
The FBI is due to release more comprehensive crime statistics in September.
James Fox, a professor at Northeastern University, told ABC News that gangs account for at least part of the increase.
'Gangs have made a comeback, and they are particularly well organised,' he told the television network.
The 2006 rise came in part from middle-sized cities, including the US capital Washington, criminologists said.

The crime statistics could prove politically embarrassing for President George W. Bush, who has portrayed himself as tough on crime.
Democratic Senator Joe Biden, a candidate for the US presidency, wasted no time in wading into the issue.
'After years of driving crime rates down, we're now in reverse gear,' he said late last week, speaking to the Washington Post in advance of the data release.
'It's time to get back to crime-fighting basics - that means more cops on the streets, equipped with the tools and resources they need to keep our neighborhoods safe,' he said.
News of rising crime rates comes after last week's announcement by US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales of an administration plan to expand law enforcement task forces to a handful of cities especially hard-hit by violent crime.
Mr Gonzales, the top US law enforcement official, also announced that police will receive more money and can look forward to tougher laws to combat violent crime in US cities.
His proposals extend the work of task forces of prosecutors and law enforcement officers at federal, state and local levels to 29 US cities, up from 25.
'The legislation we have proposed today will make it easier for federal investigators and prosecutors to take dangerous criminals off the streets and put them behind bars for longer,' Mr Gonzales said.
The new law would double the maximum penalty for selling a weapon that will be used in a violent or drug crime; increase penalties for conspiracy; crack down harder on prior felons; extend the statute of limitations on prosecuting violent crime; and create a special category for violent crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. -- AFP -

1. GST offset package comes from where? GST increase... bettter no GST increase rather than GST offset.
2. Malaysia has top Australian universities for umpteen years and what how did EDB cope dealing with just One UNSW ? CMI

Of course we Singaporeans complain lah..... How else can we improve if we keep being contented? Comparing ourselves with other countries that are not so well off is completely irrelevant. We want to compare with countries that are right up there so that we will strive for betterment le ma!
