We didn't realise then that the horrid tragedy happened on the 4th.
We were a little puzzled to see many police and their vehicles. Even one of the crossing was closed. On hingsight, we then saw what the extra security was for.
!st time we were there on 31st May morning, we saw many people rehearshing (mayb for the olympics 200
on the square. That morning I asked my guide where in particular the kiilings were.
She told me not to talk sensitive matters on the square. After tt, she didn't talk about it again. -

We had half a bottle of mineral water stuck to the side of our haversack. The airport security told us tt was not allowed in.
AND THEN WE DRANK IT ALL UP, without them asking us!!!!

from what I understand, "June 1st" is International Children's Day, most likely that's what it's for. Also many students and tourists go there every morning for the flag raising at the sunrise. Are you sure that's not it? -

Do you know Beijing have been preparing for Olympics 2008 for 8 years? Many of the buildings are being demolished and rebuilt, a lot repainted, Wangfujing being refurbished... A lot of official 2008 Olympics souvenirs on sale....
