Both my parents are short, but they reproduce a mixed of tall and short children. But both my grandfathers are tall and my paternal grandmother is tall too. Which means both my parents have recessive tall genes, which is passed to me. I appear short but should have recessive tall genes, which I passed to my sons.
My husband's parents are both short, but he inherits a dominant tall gene. He may have a recessive short gene.
So the probabilty of our offsprings are T/S, T/T, S/T, S/S. Outwardly, 50% chance of tall looking children.
If my husband has recessive tall gene, the equation changes:
The probability of our offsprings will be T/T, T/T, T/S, S/T. Outwardly 75% chance of tall looking children.
Genetics are not so straight forward... leh -
I am only 1.55m, my hubby 1.75m. My son is tall for his age. But he will reach his maximum height once his puberty is over in about two years' time. well if anyone wants to know the full height of their kids as adults. Take a measurement of the height of their child at 2 years old. Multiply by 2 and that is the full height of them as adults. This is a proven fact. -

must be lah. Cause I know that my Grandma and a couple of my dead relatives are actually above 1.7. But all their kids are really short. Around 1.5. Its really bizzare looking at my family tree. None of us look like each other and we all look like we are from totally different gene pool. FOr me, both genes and good food helped. I am the bulkiest of the whole family in terms of height and weight. My family are small petite people. -

Another lesser know genetic fact shows up on the length of the finger
Look at your hands. locate the index and 4th finger.
For normal girls - Index is longer than 4th finger
For normal boys - 4th finger is longer than Index
For girls who are a little more tomboy (perhaps also taller) - 4th finger is longer than Index
For boys who are a little more gentle (more rounded features) - Index is longer than 4th finger
If index and 4th finger is equal - balance or androgenous -

i dun think height determinds health too.....old country jap ladies are shorter and live longer lives than most of tall city slickers....my grandad shorter than me and he is now 80 plus.....hmm does height affect lifespan too?hmmm
