Sony alpha 100:

It's quite surprising that Sony decided on the use of CF memory for its dSLR. Of course one could still get the adapter for Sony's memory stick.

Other concerns include:-
1. The Lithium-ion battery
2. Lenses
3. Flash

I am a user of a film Minolta Dynax 5 SLR. Still deciding to continue with the Sony systems or to jump to the Nikon system. Read the Sony may be launching the alpha200 and alpha300 soon on clubsnap forums.
One thing I like about Minolta DSLRs and Sony had inherited over is that the "Anti Shake" mechanism is built into the body of the camera. This is different from Canon and Nikon where the Anti shake system is built into the lens.
For the Anti shake system in the body, what ever lenses I have can use the function. For Anti shake built into the lenes, I will be buying the same anti shake function each time I buy a lens with the function. And those lenses without the function will not have anti shake.

But the advantage of Nikon or Canon systems is that they are much more commonly used and I can borrow lenses or get 3rd party or 2nd hand lenses more easily.

Remember, buying a DSLR/SLR is not just buying a camera, it is buying into a system. See which systems fit you better.

I went to Sony's website in hopes of getting some news of their new dSLR, but couldn't find any.

Can you give us any links in regards to the new Alphas?

But the sucky thing bout S5IS is that it blardy runs on AAs...Hates them. Slow flash rate, high power consumption. Any views on the Fuji F50 or Nikon P5000?

If they don't use CF or SD ah, guess how many people are gonna get their alphas

Whats ur concern with the above 3?

Thats the reason I bought my S2IS. In the event that my rechargables go flat, I still can scramble for off-the-shelf batteries.

Battery: read somewhere it's pretty ex. But always a good idea to get another for a backup, even though it's able to last about 1000 shots. Being sony, I'm sure we are forced to buy only theirs.

Lenses: What lenses can it take? Third party?

Flash: With its shoe, what sort of flash is it able to take on?

Looking at the sneak preview of the Alpha 200 (or 300 or whatever they are going to name it), I'm now more tempted to just get the Alpha 100.

For batteries, a look at Eastgear only shows other sony batteries, they didn't have the one for the A100, maybe not yet.

For the lens and flash, since sony took over Konica-Minolta's SLR divison, the A100 are compatible with Konica-Minolta's lens and flash. Third party lens makers such Sigma and Tamron such have lenses and flashes for them too.
