The Fundamentals level is divided into two modules - Knowledge and Skills. The Knowledge module (F1-F3) introduces students to the core areas of financial and management accounting. This provides the platform from which the other technical accountancy areas will be studied in greater detail in the Skills module. The Skills module (F4-F9) contains six subjects which comprehensively cover the main technical areas that any accountant - regardless of their future career aspirations - are expected to have mastered. These comprise law, performance management, taxation, financial reporting, auditing, and financial management.
The Professional level is divided into two modules - Essentials (P1-P3) and Options (P4-P7). Both modules have been set at an intellectual level equivalent to that expected of a student taking a Masters degree. The focus of the syllabus at this level is to build upon the technical skills already acquired, and explore more advanced professional skills, techniques, and values that are required and used by the expert accountant acting in an advisory or consultancy role at a senior level. All students must complete the three papers in the Essentials module. The Options module contains four papers. These are directly underpinned and supported by their equivalent within the Skills module in the Fundamentals level. These exams assess the more advanced and sophisticated techniques that a professional needs in order to specialise in specific areas at work, or to follow as a career pathway in an advisory or consultancy role. Students select two out of four Option papers and are advised to choose the options that relate to their chosen or anticipated field of work.

Accountants dun juz read financial statements....
They do:
1) Preparation of financial statements (as mentioned before), for accountants in
corporations.
2) Audit and Assurance, auditors check dat the financial statements prepared by the guys in 1) [b]are correct..
3) Tax Compliance - They help clients (corporations) to compute their tax liability and onwards submission to IRAS
4) Advisory - Give advise lor... Risk management, Transaction advisory, business valuation, acquisition and mergers, insolvency, tax planning etc..
Accountants always in demand..
Boom time - More companies set up -> u got more companies to audit, prepare financial statements etc...
Recession time - Companies fold up, liquidation also need accountants...

I think it is more correct to say their job revolves around FS .. you know . . all the paperwork.Originally posted by KenPlus:Any layman also know how to read finanical statements,or maybe the basic terms the profits, etc etc.
Accountants are the ones who prepare the financial statements in accordance with the accounting standards (FRS),if accountant job is just to read the FS hahaa then anyone will apply the job.
Usually accounting work are link with finance side, that why lots of Uni courses often generally comprises of accounting and finance together,u also have to know shares and bonds well because of "creative accounting",for example if boss want to show (lower profit) for the company this yr reason(to pay lesser co tax, lesser bonus for employees etc)As the accountant u have to play around the figures loh like paying more dividend etc hence in a way u also have to know abit of finance terms well
Bankers got analysis the share market?I thought that the job for investment manager whether outsource or an internal one,to advice on client what shares to buy,etc etc, well maybe have if the bank provide banking service to potential investors.
