TNP: Wed 27 JunIf can ah, I shall take out my old school uniform and get cheap rides. I dun look my age after all, more like an upper sec student. Though I dun think it fits now.
Isn't school uniform a form of identity?
I am a secondary school girl studying in the east.
On 26 Jun, I boarded bus service 76 at 2.44pm after school.
Upon boarding, I realised I had carelessly left my ez-link card in school.
So I explained to the bus captain that I did not have the card with me.
Before I could take out the student fare of 55 cents to pay, the bus captain told me to pay the adult fare of 90 cents.
The reason? I did not have my ez-link card to prove my identity as a student.
Despite the attempts from two of my friends to try to reason with him, it was to no avail.
The bus captain was not very professional when we asked for an explanation. He was not very flexible either.
What I don't understand is, I was in full school uniform, so isn't that a form of identity as well?
The bus captain even replied at one point: "Hey, I am wearing a uniform too what." ()
It was incredulous and I was speechless.
Fed up, my friend told me to just pay 90 cents.
I don't mind paying the 90 cents, but I would like an explanation from SBS Transit on this matter.
Why couldn't the bus captain acknowledge that the school uniform identifies me as a student?
