1. Cannot just suka suka then shoo the sissies from their clerical roles. Some of them just cannot make it. Not many women are fit enough to go for combat roles. its entirely feasible just look at isreal(i think). and of course they can always do the clerical work, storemen, drivers ,etc. This was you can either free up the guys who are really unfit(injuries, diabilities) too.
not entirely for or against the idea, but just noting that its not unfeasible to get the women in even in combat roles. -

The govt already try to cut cost by reducing NS from 2.5 to 2 yrs.i doubt they will make it compulsory for females.
Anyway we guys already wasted our 2.5 years on NS,why let the females suffered as well? -
Sigh.... Whatever lah. Anyway I'm past the age for NS liao, so even if it's made compulsory I don't have to worry about getting enlisted.

by doing that the government is removing one generation of singaporeans from the economy for two years. its not worth it.

And I agree, some girls can be in combat positions. Flying a F16 or launching a Tomahawk missile doesnt depend on strength. So Air Force and Navy is no problem. Maybe SG can get some babes in Officer positions. I remember Michelle Chia looked pretty hot a while back
But if a girl is strong enough to be in the army, then she's probably pretty butch. Don't expect any Fann Wong type girls making the grade as a soldier. Could you imagine someone like Joanne Peh being able to lug a 20 kg backpack around for 15 km?

why does everyone think that ns = armed forces = army and stuff?
non combatant roles doesnt mean have to still be with the saf what, can be nurse, not only in hospitals but in old folks' homes etc, do admin stuff etc etc.
so for those complaining about monthly issues in field camp etc, its just an excuse, especially when the ts has already mentioned it is non-combatant roles..
okay my 2 cents. haha.
edit: it is still serving the nation, and that's what national service is all about. also not call them do MILITARY service.. besides as people above have mentioned, there are some vocations within the military that doesn't have high requirements on fitness and strength etc anyway.. -

physically would be the speed, not many can take the pressure when flying at incredible fast speeds or executing chains of drastic maneuvours just to evade situations like being locked on or trying to get ur enemy off ur back.
but i can suggest that air control or other type of controls could be pushed to girls. i think it will be morale boosting if u'r the pilot communicating wif ground control who is a female probably encouraging u while u'r abt to face life and death. don't knoe abt u guys think..
anyway females in ns could be a great idea, but on the economic side, it doesn't look quite well -

wow. NS for women? sure! (: i think technology advances too rapidly le. i think men can be pregnant too now rite? mayb IF they are willing to be pregnant, then i think it's okay for women to go NS.

then again, women can have a choice NOT to get pregnant (and many are choosing not to -- based on declining birth rates)
do men have a choice not to serve ns? for those willing they can always sign on!
pregnant women have a tough life, but they get all the privileges from maternity benefits to people giving up seats to them on public transport! whereas saf personnel have to give up their seats to other needy people. i have ever once, with a fever of 39 degrees and on attend c and on the way home on the train, have to give up my seat to an elderly person just because i wear the green uniform and have to uphold saf image (and i'm not contributing to national security directly if i uphold saf image), because everyone expects me to be the one who gives up my seat!
