And I agree, some girls can be in combat positions. Flying a F16 or launching a Tomahawk missile doesnt depend on strength. So Air Force and Navy is no problem. Maybe SG can get some babes in Officer positions. I remember Michelle Chia looked pretty hot a while back
But if a girl is strong enough to be in the army, then she's probably pretty butch. Don't expect any Fann Wong type girls making the grade as a soldier. Could you imagine someone like Joanne Peh being able to lug a 20 kg backpack around for 15 km?
Anyway the army thing debate is going on for how many donkey years. Last time NS was so siong and the guys did not complain. Now so xin nang and u all guys complain for fark? Knn gu niang. Dun get other ppl into the picture just bcos u suffer, endure it like a man, and ppl will respect u. Whining like this will only make urself look like loser and women will keep on look down on u.
Hope all the guys out there will stop the whining and do something useful..... -

Last I checked, I served my NS because I wanted to protect my friends, family and the REAL ladies in our nation, which are certainly not your kind. -

Ristar, it's interesting you say that about boys becoming men.
When I look at SG guys, they have to be the weakest bunch of males I have ever seen. Have you seen Korean guys after they have done NS? They are strong tough guys.
But with SG guys, (the ones who did actual physical soldiering, and not white collar jobs like clerical or standing on a boat), it's like the moment they leave, they have instead muscle flabbersizers. Have you ever seen a guy in his late 20's or older getup from lying down position? It's a pitiful struggle. And unlike Westerners who are often obese, they are still skinny.
And I still think girls should do NS.
The labour shortage will sort itself out in a year or two, and there is always cheap labour from India, China or the Philippines. -

And my view is this.
NS should be compulsory for females as well as males. They should be limited to non combatant roles, and should serve the same length of time as the males.
Why?
1. It solves the Govt's concern about declining population and lack of people for the Armed Forces. All the males who currently serve in clerical positions can be shifted to ones where they shoot and kick ass instead. The number of soldiers will instantly double.
2. It also solves declining birthrates too. More guys and girls will meet and mingle and more couples will form. Hubba hubba
3. Singaporean women are quite confidant and educated. They believe they are equal or better than men and have no qualms saying so. Let them prove it.
I have no doubt many people will be against this, including:
1. Parents. Armed forces is guy's stuff, not for dainty little delicate ladies, right?
2. The girls. Despite all the bravado and talk of equality, the girl's I've discussed this with are actually quite scared of the thought of actually having to do it. They're quite happy getting on with life, be it work or study, and macking with guys a couple of years older than themselves.
3. The guys. Many guys who take the easy way out pretending to be big military men, but who are really pen pushers, will protest if they have to get off their butts and train like everyone else.
What does anyone else think?
