hmmmm. point takenOriginally posted by No9:I got an advice not sure if its applicable..
lets say u r given a promotion and a pay raise from $4000 to $5000, happily, u buy a new car, buy gadgets, new clothes, more instalments, etc etc... In the end, u r worse off financially compared to the period before the promotion. Its the false impression of 'wealth' when someone has extra $$$, and its human nature to spend it.
my point is even if have extra $$$, always try to maintain the 'same' lifestyle. There's no such thing as if I earn $4000 I drive an Altis, and if I earn $8000 i must drive 3 Series and live in condo and carry LV. This is crap. Alot of people look good on the outside, but excluding their CPF account, they have very little additional savings.
By maintaining the 'same' lifestyle, I do not mean live in the same house or drive the same car till u r dead. Living is like eating, do everything in moderation. If u feel u can comfortably afford a new car by all means do so. By living the'same' lifestyle even when more $$$ comes in, the extra $$$ can be saved or channelled into investments.
Not everyone has the luck to 'tio' Toto. Savings is always the 1st step.
