I guess you really have to appeal to the seasoned bangkok go-ers. Normally first timers usually choose a hotel more centralized.
I remember another forumner actually ran a hotel or tour agency in Vietnam as well if I am not wrong.

If anyone should ever go to the GRAND PALACE or be approached by ANYONE saying that any tourist attraction is closed, or that it is a SPECIAL RELIGIOUS DAY, please do not believe them! This is the famous GEM SCAM. They will volunteer to bring you to various temples for only 20b - 40b on Tuk-tuks.
They actual aim is to lure you to GEM SHOPS that sells low quality gems at absurd prices!
My parents were nearly victimised, fortunately I could speak Thai and know quite alot of people here, a quick call to my friends confirmed that it was not a religious day. -
