And then when it didn't, he ignored it when valid questions started popping up asking him why there wasn't a crash?

Classic fearmongering. First you take the things that prick at the people(in this case, the taxes). You pretend those things are part of a bigger picture destined to doom one and all. And then you make this big prediction. If it doesn't come true, just act as if nothing happened. If the prediction even remotely seems to be true, cash in on the blind panic/faith.

For the sake of people who might actually believe you, I once more have to urge everyone to read up and understand what sweeping statements are. Newton's laws of motion sound like sweeping statements, but they're not.
