Well, it's not surprising that someone will try to do something like that... by now, there are a lot of replies suggesting moving the bed....sound advice...
My bf's room got something similar like that also... his room corridor window is the high-level type... you won't be able to look in at eye-level. However, there was one night when he was about to sleep. The blinds were down but window was opened. All of a sudden, he saw a hand reaching in to grope for something by the window... He grabbed that hand and tried to hurt the fellow, but the fellow got away...
Anyway, the whole idea is that: if you are even afraid of putting something near to the window when anyone passing-by can just reach and take, then why put your bed there!
Yeah...just a reminder... dun put anything near the corridor window and close window when you're out of the room. -

Sorry to hear that this happened to you.
Noted that you had reported to police. What is the advise from the police from this happening again.
May be it is time to install a dummy camera in the corridor, which can act as a deterent. Real one too expensive to install and maintain with the video recorder with time lapse function etc?
Can consider sealing up the windows, put in curtain and install air conditioner, which SM said is the grestest invention in this century.
