hi all,
just curious....next month maybe i'm gonna wear braces liao.........is it that if wear brace, you can only eat porridge and soup for the 1st few months?
pls advise.

hmm.... i think around 1 to 2 months, you can start eating solid food. but not those hard & chewy one. I am on braces.. till now, i stil cant eat squids & abalones..
But i start eating steaks after one or 2 mths, but have to cut it into tiny pieces or it will be hard & tiring to chew it
intially when u put on, basically u wil be shallowing your food, cos you will feel that your teeth are soft (actually they are mobile, moving). so you cant bite the food. every mth after tightening the braces, the 1st few days are terrible, is better/ or only can eat soft food, but it varies on how your doctor do it for u. -
u will drool a lot
pls carry with u a cup or a megaroll-toilet-paper -
er, if i go put braces on sum part of my teeth ( sorry duno wad the term) to straighten 1 teeth nia, around how much will it cost eh?

also depends on the teeth that you are gng to straighten.. whether u need to extract teeth to straighten it?
for my doc, whether i m doing upper teeth only, or doing full set, is the same price. -

Braces will really drool alot one, i wore for freaking 2 years! They plucked out 4of my teeth somemore leh..
Its just mainly.. after every month when they tighten, it will hurt for the 1st week after tighten, for me la. After the first week, can mostly eat anything, hard soft also can.
When just put on ur tighten, lol, dont worry, normal rice also cannot eat. Porridge would be best.

last time when i was young i never did drool, after wearing braces, even take off liao, still drool..

1) braces are juts "fenced" on the surface of the teeth.......what have they gotta do with drooling?
2) the teeth are still intact on the gums and the braces are just surrounding them, so why cannot eat hard food?
it's like adding a layer of plastic onto your teeth. in theory, it makes you teeth even stronger cos' there's support, so why no hard food?

1) cuz when ur not eating, ur mouth detects some extra thing in ur teeth, causing saliva to be produced. Must wait awhile till ur mouth understands that braces is part of it, and then it will stop producing excessive saliva.Originally posted by Nikar2:thanks everyone, but i don't get it....

2) braces are to adjust your teeth. in order to adjust it, your teeth need to be mobile. so when you are wearing braces, your teeth are mobile (loose in layman term) & so, is hard to chew food.
teeth will remain mobile until braces are taken out, & retainer are fixed in after some times. -

eh, i heard that when young, its because of bad eating habits that caused the teeth not to grow properly in straight alignment?
