i had braces on when i was primary 6. it was so darn painful. and every month nid go bak to e dentist and tighten e braces. had it on for 4 years and aft tht was retainer for like 3 yrs.
wen i first had it, dun dare sallow my saliva and i cun speak well for ard 2 days.feeling was jus so weird
but aft tht took out e braces i felt so weird wifout it

hmm.. i heard that if u want to do in national dental, u need to wait like 2 yr or so. braces cost abt $3k - $4k for metal ones, ceramics will cost more.
usually we pay a downpayment(about $1k, slightly less or more depending on the clinic) first when we put on the braces. the rest will be paid by instalments each time you go back for your monthly appts. -
one of my friends said that her cousin didnt wear his retainers after putting braces and his teeth split open. yuck.

downpayment cost around $1k to $2K(mine).
the rest will be by installment... around $100 per mth (braces need to tighten & adjust every mth so you will need to go back every mth). -

i'm going to wear braces in dec. But i intend to extract two of my wisom tooth before it. Should i wait just before putting on braces or pluck them out now? Cos i was thinking if i extract just before putting on braces, perhaps the anesthesia might lesser the pain effect. Before putting braces, does the orthodontist apply anesthesia?

err...i dont think it is advisable to extract your teeth and put on the braces straightaway. at least do either one first(depends on what your ortho recommends) and let the extraction site heal/get used to the braces before proceed to the other step. usually when you first put on braces, your teeth will ache and eating will be hard.
are you sure you can survive the braces discomfort together with 2 newly extracted wisdom tooth? the ortho doesnt put on anesthesia for putting on braces. it is only glueing the brackets to your teeth, putting on the wire and the rubber bands. -
ppl usually extract teeth if neccessary b4 putting on braces, maybe for healing purposes. Moreover putting on braces for the 1st time, not much pain. only glueing the metal, the doc will not tighten too much at the 1st time. yup i have seen the orthodontist. I have already extraced two wisdom tooth. I didn't extract the other two as they didn't give me any problems at that time. Can roughly tell me how are braces applied? Aren't the brackets suppose to push the teeth together? If so, shouldn't the doc put anesthesia if he is going to push them towards each other? -
the brackets glued to the teeth doesnt move your teeth. the brackets is to hold a flexible arch wire which moves your teeth by applying light pressure. the rubber bands hold the wire in place onto the brackets. your teeth may feel sore after putting on the braces, but not to the extent of needing anesthesia. its not like you are undergoing tremendous pain like an operation.Originally posted by ironpeasant:yup i have seen the orthodontist.
