I experienced the same thing about two weeks ago. In a game of soccer, i heard this audible "pop" sound from my knee and the next thing i knew when i landed my left leg on the ground, my knee just gave way like as if it was non-existent and i fell to the ground screaming in pain. Doctor diagnosed it as a torn meniscus and the possibility of a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in my left knee. I had since undergone one session of physio at CGH sports medical centre. The costs just for that one day inclusive of crutches sets me back by $100. This may seem like a small sum to many of ya but i;m currently a sports student and that amount could last me for a week. When the doctor scheduled me for a MRI scan and X ray, i subsequently realised that the cost for just the MRI alone is $264 and it is not covered under medisave for unhospitalised patients. That sucks big time cos the pain is still hurting but yet the amount of expenses that needs to be borned is even more hurting to the pocket. Sigh. So i;m still limping and restricted to slow walking..its very demoralising cos i can't do sports because of this and i plan to continue on to be a sports teacher. I hate the expensive medical costs..this does not involve surgery yet.. Sigh. Tommorow i am supposed to go mri scan but i may just call to cancel it when i really wish things could be much simpler and cheaper. Do tell me how much ya have to actually fork out for the surgery in all. I hope all will goes well and ya'll be up and running in the field once again. Keep in touch. By the way, hi everyone. I;m new here.
hi there. surgery is the best option. suffering from the constant fear of a twisted knee is terrible. although surgery is costly, its better than getting arthritis at a earlier age. i feared going under the knife but i felt i had no choice because it would benefit me. maybe u should do it because the risks that are involved are great and the pain from just a jump(which happend to me) set me on crutches yet again for 3 days after the trauma suffered. a surgery would be good. best if insurance is involed or some government supported fund.
its best if u could take care of it and not do any sport at all, but a surgery would enable sports in 9 months, with light activity starting from 2 weeks. beats constantly getting a twisted knee for life.
thanks to all who posted well wishes. god bless. less than 24 hrs in now.
