Teaching is a noble profession, people become teachers because they want to give something to society.Originally posted by strado:Last time, teachers can cane or slap their students. I got slapped many times during my pri sch days. Its actually possible to sue my teachers now cos even tho last time can hit students, slapping directly across the cheeks is considered abusive behaviours.
And I still keep in contacts with those teachers so if I were to sue them, damn easy.

Have you ever thought about why you were slapped? Maybe you deserved it?

Its only until I hit sec 1 (in 2001) that teachers cannot lay a finger on their students anymore.
Alot of teachers always complained that teaching nowadays doesnt pay. Then in the first place, who asked them to be one? They could have found a job anywhere but they chose to be a teacher and then complained abt it. Wad are they trying to be prove? Trying to make ppl think "oh she/he is a teacher, so he/she must be very smart?"
Since he is charged under the Miscellaneous Offence Act, its not a civil case.Originally posted by Nothingie:I think it's about time someone brought the discipline in the schools into the limelight.
& teachers nowadays are simply powerless, in the face of students & parents.
what would happen if a teacher scolded a student?
remember the incident whereby a principal hitted the head of a girl with an exercise book.
MOE is fast to jump at the throats of teachers & principals at the slightest complaints of the students & parents.
By doing that, teachers & principals now 'fear' the students & it is not good for the society as a whole.
A teacher friend told me that there were students who threatened that they would complain until the teachers lose their jobs. & these were pri sch kids.
What on earth are the parents teaching their kids?
For those of you who think that there are other ways of dealing with the situation and saying that the sch should have adopted them. Maybe they already have and it didn't work. Maybe the teacher has already sufferred so much that she has finally decided to take actions on her own.
Is this a criminal case or a civil case? If it's the police who has decided to charge him, then it should be quite serious.
They are complaining its tough because there are students like you lor... you thought all teachers owe you a living ah. They are also humans like you and me and I bet you won't like it if you are being insulted and not able to fight back right?Originally posted by strado:Alot of teachers always complained that teaching nowadays doesnt pay. Yes i agree but we are not sure what is the context here. The student in question COULD be intentionally directing his insulting remarks to the teacher with malicious intent.Originally posted by mamamamama:People now are so used to using these sort of vulgarities that it becomes a norm to them.
It's like we use it for the sake of using it, not trying to mean anything.
I wonder what was it he said.Originally posted by BabyRex:Since he is charged under the Miscellaneous Offence Act, its not a civil case.

Ask that teacher to QUIT FROM THE EDUCATION SERVICE!!!
Your duty is to teach, NOT GOING AROUND SUING PEOPLE!!!
BLOODY MORON.>
If that teacher is not Singapore citizen, then she can just pack her bags and say bye to this country.
remind me of an incident my friend tell me...Originally posted by blue_yoghurt:ya man. i strongly feel we shld bring back the days of the cane.
anyone who doesnt agree wld just have to spend a day in an EM3 class. kids hurling vulgarities at their teachers are not that uncommon. we really need to do sth to these kids before we regret not disciplining them earlier...
As you have put it, the teacher's duty is to teach, NOT TO TAKE THE STUDENTS' ABUSE.Originally posted by kawasaki2:What the hell?
