u all wrong. the rich-poor divide is very big. the rich chinese are very rich. there are also poor chinese and thay are very poor. how come like that? the rich chinese have money to bribe everyone to get what they want. the poor chinese got no money to bribe, so they remains very poor. in indonesia, u want something, u must bribe, no bribe no talk. all indon business men / garment workers take and give bribes. its a fact, not mean to say bad thing about others.
My lecturer told us during our Marketing semester that if you are able to sold one pen costing $1 to all Singaporeans++foreigner, u get a gross profit of maybe 4 to 5 millions, if you sold to the chinese in china, u make maybe 1 billion, and if u sold to indonesians, u make about 400millions.
Welcome to Marketing, as the sony president once said, if all chinese in china were to buy sony products, we can forget about all the other asia countries.
As some posters here stated, chinese are the most business like peoples, given the opportunity, they think of business, therefore in a rural areas as indonesia, the native indos do not bother about business, this give the chinese great opportunity to run business, and with a market of 400millions consumers, just imagine. Indians are also good business people but in indonesia there are no indians, so in a rare opportunity, the chinese there rise to be millionaires since the Dutch left them.
However having said that, when the indo riot, chinese are the ones going to suffer, the last time, chinese were even beheaded in the public. You dun be surprise as i did when i visited a rich chinese relative in Jakarta, their house have 4 rotating bodyguards.
i think its the same thing in malaysia, which is why the biased malaysian government has to implement measures to protect the malays.
