Strike him, unless he has valid personal reasons, explain to him he has contributed nothing and has arrived for meetups late, so unless he can explain why with valid proof, there is no reasons for him to get the marks.
After all, the point of a project is performance grading right? If you can't avoid failing, might as well learn from it, you can pass that idea on to him and he will buck up his ideas for the re remodule of his modules. -
Have a straight guy-to-guy talk with him. If he changes his behavior, give him a chance to prove his worth to the team. If he still doesn't change, then sack him! -

anyway also your role is not to 'teach him a lesson' ya, it's not your role to teach him how to be a better person right.
In this case 'teach him a lesson' = purposely whack him cos obviously you're unhappy with him. then your intent is to 'take revenge' on the guy. even if your displeasure with him is justifiable, im not sure this course of action reflects well on you.
alternatively you can show ppl that you have a big heart, and let the matter rest. -
It may indeed not be your duty to improve him but it would have done your team good if you tried to handle the situation while the project was still ongoing. Now that the project is done, it seems no more than just meting out punishment to the guy.
Before you give him the fail sentence, do try to talk to him and be frank about the feelings of the team. Open up in front of him and show that you are ready to compromise if there are enough good reasons behind his problem and he can deliver something for the team. Let him see clearly the mistakes he has made in the project and if done correctly, you will see a change in attitude of a bad person. Be very firm with your final decision as it gives the signal to such people that there are bad consequences to their bad action.
If you want to be a good leader and good father in life, that's what you have to do. Life is not just about producing good results for we coexists and need each other very very much. Even a super genius is nothing if there is no one for him to appreciate his invention but himself. -

Talk to your tutor and see what he says.
As long as he's contributing, even by talking, there might be some decent ideas...you just have to treat it like your baby and work harder only. Even if he's benefited from doing nothing, you know that he's going down if he doens't buck up.

I didn't strike them but i threaten them that i won't be doing anything provided they do something. But hor, i dun know y got one garang guy came into picture and spoil my whole plan -- to fail that project (it is only 7% of my coursework and i dun need it to score anyway).
For ur case, there is only one scumbag so my method cannot be employed as it is to target the whole group. Therefore, SHOW NO MERCY. -

Since he has already flunked 3 modules, i don't think flunking another 1 makes any difference to him. He must be damn rich to keep flunking. Anyway, this tells a lot about his attitude. So, why help him when he doesn't help himself.
Just put his name down in your final report or whatever, as a formality. BUT tell your tutor he did not contribute anything to the project. I don't see this as backstabbing since in the beginnng, he has already planned to live off you and your other grp mates. -

The thing is that he repeated and he still do not repent so whats the point of helping him if he don't himself? I feel best is what others said, have a guy-to-guy talk and then make the your conclusion. If I were you, unless the other person has got a valid reason, a reason which is understandable or it will include him at all.

Your priority is to figure out what should have been the right action to take in the event the same thing happens again.
Prior to the start of the project, did anyone set down rules and acceptable performance/behavior ?
Did anyone conveyed their unhappiness to the freeloader during the project ?
Did anyone try to fix it in the early stages, instead of whining about it at the end ?
Next time when you become a manager. Will you simply sack some one who is slacking in performance at the end of the year? Knowing he has a family to feed ? Or that he has medical needs which has to be paid for with this income ?
Shouldn't you have given him a warning letter and let him know of his unsatisfactory performance ? Before you cut his life line ?
There are more human issues other than your project scores. -
wat jojobeach stated is true. ur lecturer or ur management next time u work in may not buy ur excuse becos of one individual who is not contribute. they will rather see u as a failure who cannot lead ur team member to perform n view u as less interaction between ur team.
a real team share burden among themselves instead of finger pointings at one another when failure occurs. be glad there is a black sheep in ur team as u will expect to encounter them next time u step into working society.
what u should learn is how to turn him to contribute maybe a little for the team to make him feel important in his role as team member rather than thinking ways of kicking him off. -

Anyway the other 2 girls just call me and we decided to strike him off.
I mean the 3 of us agree if that joker even had a single ounce of proof that he did put in hard work to do any research we will let him be our group but seriously that guy is a joke -
