  ya lo now adays the kids so lucky... primary school every day got 50 cent to eat...primary 6 upgrade to 1.50.
  sec 1 to sec 5, $2.50 to $4.
  poly 1st year $8... second year $10( cos engineering foodcout very ex..)
  
  all these money i also have to pay my own transport and tele bills..
  
  ps: i sense a flamewar here.

  ya la last time how can afford to go restaurants, at most is mac.
  
  I wonder if nowadays kids are too good life that they become no manners, just encounter one bunch of kids (sec 1,2) step on my foot when the bus jams, I demanded only a apology, ok he apologized, but his fren like keep staring at me... zzz
  
  Step on ppl's foot have the courtesy to say sorry la. still stare me.
  
  I feel so sad abt Singapore's future. Wonder does their parents only teach them to spend money and forgo those good ethics?
  
  Sianz going back with my bruised foot with a very disappointed view of younger generation.
  
  I may be unlucky to meet the minority too, but the encounters are many, I must stop lying to myself that the ones I met are the minority blacksheep of YOUNG LEaders.

  All these is about upbringing..I've seen tons of ugly Singaporeans..especially kids..
  
  I admit I'm young myself..But at least I say "Sorry" or "Thank you" in circumstances where I need to say it..

  I try to restrain myself from commenting but i just can't as I've seen a considerable number of these posts popping up in the forums.
  
  First, today, not only the kids have good life but their parents have too. I just don't understand what the thread starter wants. Our society has progressed to a much higher level of economic prosperity, what can you expect? With money, you certainly cannot expect people to live like the older days where everyone is poor and just trying to scrape through. We should be happy that more and more people are using branded expensive goods and eating fulfilling meals.
  
  However, I have to agree that this has caused some social problems. With this, there is sort of a visible widening income gap that we see. Even in the midst of the many well off people in Singapore, there are those who are still poor and trying to cope. This is disturbing.
  
  Also, it has to be agreed that some parents are indeed over-pampering their children. However, I am sure that children being able to spend and enjoy life more is not the root of the problem to them using swear phrases and being rude. This problem from my perspective is caused by influence from friends and of course the mass media. When I say the mass media, I mean the western influence. Their movies and shows are glittering with unfavorable words and phrases which is taken as "cool" and "in" for Singaporean students.

  We shouldn't impose our own story and experiences on the new age of children. They experience differently from us. Their own stories and ours are different simply because we leave in different times and have seen, hear, feel, tasted and smell differently.
  
  Whether we feel lucky is much more dependent on how we have experienced before and now. People who feel as what the poster said speaks out from their own experiences and will not be able to bridge the gap with the newer generation of people.

  kids waste more money -> kids ask parents for more money...
  
  this leads to several possibilties:
  
  - if parents are in business, they might raise prices...
  - if parents are highly educated, they might request higher salaries when looking for jobs -> companies might raise prices of their products (or reduce salaries of other workers)
  - if parents are in politics, they might ask for pay rise...
  - etc...
  
  this leads to...
  
  - population suffering from increased prices

  korean bbq $10 isn't expensive. many a times, i see many people eating at a restaurant called PEACH garden. it's very famous and the best 5 restaurants in singapore. even lee hsien loong went before to eat and praised them.
  
  a plate of tou fu with special sauce which is the best you've taqsted in the world (i ever ate once before ) costs $30. and fish go at $35-50. after a simple meal there for 4, the bill was $130. rice went at $2 a bowl but it's good quality rice.
  
  so bbq isn't ex

  my money which i find veri little. mind you its 4 bucks for poly. save everyday to buy hp. family got problem who have to fork out money? me.

  Totally agree with you... able to eat and live in such good environment is a good thing. Its the problem of family upbringing. Since the problem lies on family, parents should lay their hands on their children and teach them good moral values.

  Yes yes..true..but problem is nowadays very little parents really teach their children good moral values!
