why low pay for preschool teachers?

why low pay for preschool teachers? i dont know if this topic has been discussed before, be it here or anywhere else..
just curious to know. why is it that low? lets say, in terms of a diploma level. is it the nature of the job to be like that? it shouldnt be that low as the demands of preschool centres etc are increasing, right?
im not an expert in this issue, so i hope someone can clarify my doubt..? -

my friend is a nursery teacher.
sad to say, she feels more like a nanny than a teacher. -

i believe in SG, real education starts in Pri Education... not pre sch. That could be the reason for the low pay as the education in presch may not be significant enuff and thus it may not justify if the pay for presch teacher is the same as Pri and Sec sch teachers are recieving... Thats my opinion, no offence

lack of standards consistency, quality control
low minimum pre-requisites for staff up to now
low expectations when in actual fact they play a crucial role in child development
lack of understanding that preschooling play for children -

I googled and it came up with a list of bachelor studies for early childhood available in Singapore leh. -

Pres-School teaching requires a certificate in early education. Salaries are mostly determine in the following manner.
1. Phd (Highest paid)
2. Master's Degree
3. Bachelor's Degree
4. Diploma
5. Certificate
Hope this clears the doubt.
Yeah, it's true that Pre-School teachers are more like a nanny. Although it's low paid still it's a noble profession as the pre-school teachers helps to build the foundation for the kids. -

presch teachers are impt, but sadly their pay goes according to their level of qualifcation.
they teaches the basic foundation to the kids, and their job is impt to learning and development from young.
but i do know, they are getting their increment in salary too. slowly ba, takes time. -
But of course things usually go according to ranks..Preschool is the lowest of all ranks..so equals to lowest pay..it's the sad truth to hear of course..
And university professors get paid tons of money to do nothing..
