if one's that enamoured about cats, adopt the strays, take them in, or bring them to the SPCA, don't scatter packets of rice around void decks and around rubbish chutes and scuttle off, leaving half eaten bits of cat food and rice lying around rotting for the banglas to be cleaned up ! ....
there was this ah pek that used to do that around my neighbourhood, who'd go around feeding strays with newspaper wrapped bits of rice and fish, creating a huge mess every time ! ... and the cat population exploded ! ... best part ... he doesn't live in my estate, so he doesn't have to deal with the consequences ! ...
Trap-neuter-return program is effective but AVA stopped supporting the program. That's a shame. During the SARS outbreak, again the AVA rounded up the strays. Not a shred of evidence proved that stray cats and dogs spread the virus. Tens of thousands of cats and dogs were put to sleep unnecessarily. The Govt hired stupid minds to run the AVA.
People who keep cats at home must also be responsible. Neuter or spay the cats.
There are talks of making animal food that contain contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Hope the plan works and become reality.
