Hi everyone!
Calling all Singaporeans who live in Hougang/ have lived there. Do you remember any prison or farm situated there around the 80s?
Also, feel free to throw in everything you can remember about Hougang's past! ![]()

It used to be a PvP arena long ago, before the First War. The warlock Gul'dan exiled a clan of orcs called the Frostwolves to a hidden valley deep in the heart of the Hougang Mountains. It is here in the valley's southern reaches that the Frostwolves eked out a living until the coming of Thrall.
After Thrall's triumphant uniting of the clans, the Frostwolves, now led by the Orc Shaman Drek'Thar, chose to remain in the valley they had for so long called their home. In recent times, however, the relative peace of the Frostwolves has been challenged by the arrival of the Dwarven Stormpike Expedition.
The Stormpikes have set up residence in the valley to search for natural resources and ancient relics. Despite their intentions, the Dwarven presence has sparked heated conflict with the Frostwolf Orcs to the south, who have vowed to drive the interlopers from their lands
the mosque near blk 249 along hougang ave 3 was pink instead of the white now.

If remembered correctly, Until the 80's, the patch between Hougang Ave4 and Hougang Central is one big patch of coconut trees. The private estate behind Kovan MRT opp Kovan Mall was some sort of kumpong. The market at Kovan MRT site has a very popular poh piah stall were every Sunday morning there is long queue waiting to buy it.
Kovan mrt area where there are currently all the condo developments going on up to simon road, used to be very old shop houses which were gutted by a big fire in the 80s, and never rebuilt.
The big longkang that snakes along old tampines road and goes underground at simon road used to be open, and a five foot way very lok kok hawker centre use to occupy the area along simon road. There used to be orh lua, wanton mee, and hokkien mee. The hokkien mee has relocated to a corner shop at the old airport road hawker centre.
The macdonald's branch along hougang st 21 is close to 25 years old, along with the mee siam, yong tau fu, carrot cake, sugarcane, and coffeeshop stalls nearest mac's. Special mention goes to the wanton mee facing the old interchange, they still use ketchup.![]()

Yup, I saw that block before! There's another block near Xinmin that has a huge painting on one side of the walls. Anyone knows why certain blocks of flats are chosen to have those "kiddy" paintings drawn on them?
Or anyone know of any other blocks with paintings?
