From Wikipedia...
Earth Hour is an annual international event created by WWF (The World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund), held on the last Saturday of March, that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. It was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007[1], and achieved worldwide participation in 2008.
Earth Hour will next take place on Saturday, March 28 2009 at 8:30pm, local time.

Wow.
Disgusting.
Dont spread this kind of propaganda pls.
What is the use of such a gimmick?
I am a bit disgusted by some rich people from some rich countries who are always thinking for themselves and come up with feel-good gimmicks while putting on pretentious themes like "earth hour".
A poor kid in Africa does not need to be told that his family should turn off electricity for one hour, maybe they dont have any electricity at all, or maybe they need it because they need the lamp to read and finish his homework.
Disgusting.
IT should be solar Earth 2009.
Do you all know that at least 70% of the participating companies are not even open for business at those hours?![]()
Something random.
Would it be better to look out for stars tonight?

I agree with Meat Pao, people living in third-world countries or environment/situations suffers and are still suffering Earth Hour every hours in their lives.
I'm also celebrating no 50k ring Day everyday. ![]()
I remembered there used to be a No-Underwear Day where people are not allowed to wear any underwear at all underneath their clothes.
Don't remember where I bumped across this weird festival already....does anyone know?
Guys should stop farting everywhere, then the Earth will smell fresher everyday. ![]()
I beg to differ. A little effort is better than none. But well, everyone has their views and each view is different so i respect that and hope you respect mine as well. I'm going to participate in this anyway.

I'm even more disgusted when the rich people turn on every energy-sucking appliances and suck our earth dry. I seriously hate it when they say "why? I can afford the bills, so?".
Sorry, but that's my view.
last year the organisers for the F1 spat on Earth Hour when they used that hour to test all the lighting systems on the track.
I agree with what Meat Pao and parn said. I may be some propoganda cooked up by some rich fellow to look environmental consicious. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't save electricity. I'll do my usual to save electricity, that doesn't mean I'll necessary switch off everything during that hour if it inconveniences my work.

That one hour is to raise environmental awareness among people and let the whole world come together and work together to promote the conservation of our planet. I think that we all should participate in this.

Agreed. This is exactly what i meant. Its not all about this day only. Its about how you save energy and reduce carbon footprint THROUGHOUT your life. Everyone on this earth has a carbon footprint.
I dont ride a car to town. I take the public transport. At night no bus right? I ride my bike down to town.

Dont forget about the energy consuming concert they did when they celebrated this event. God knows if they really use bio fuel (as they claim). ![]()
I'm never brainwashed by these rich dudes. Im brainwashed by individual scientists who are working hard to help reduce carbon footprints in each country. Engineers are also working at stuffs that reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.
