Hi im 31 this year, born 1978. got a poly dip in Mfg 1998, Specs Dip in Supply chain 2006. All my past exp eloves around production planning and ops job.
Is it too late for me to swtich to accounts field now? By the time i finished my ACCA, i will be like, 34. Still employable?
regarding this, you got to really consider hard.
i know in OZ or US still can....in Sing. sigh very hard.
You already took your ACCA, so no harm trying.
But from what I heard, you will be fighting with a lot of PRCs who come to Singapore to do their ACCA. ![]()
not yet.......thinking wether to take or not.

Take it as an extra certification then.
Might be useful even if you don't do accounting directly.
It's like a condom.
You may not need it but it's still better to have one in your pocket.
Just in case. ![]()

I have a couple of friends in engineering, both dip n deg, 1975, also taking ACCA. One taking from kapaln, 1st sempt.
Another friend, 1979, deg in mech, now taking deg in accountancy from ntu.
On a related note, it's a tough world these days.
No longer is it enough to just have a basic diploma or a basic degree.
Everybody is like taking ACCA, CFA or doing their MBAs.

These days market kenna infiltrated by PRC ACCA grads, it's quite difficult to compete.
I know of NTU B.Acc with CFA selling investment products.
All of them doing it part time. But one thing I must warn u, it's very tiring, especially ur day job is in engineering. I dunno why but engineers in singapore seem to get all the worst stuff for similar pay as their peers.
U get tougher, longer duration subjects in uni/poly as compare to business. U work much more hours for a same pay to a business/admin grad. And u'r not look up as a presitgious job. I know many would wanna challenge me on this, let's put it straight. Diploma mech engrg in a manufacturing plant vs a dip business grad in a MNC. About the same pay, n the mech guy almost always dun knockoff on time. I mean of course there are exceptions, but I'm sure many agreed.
Anyway, I would recommend a "upgrade" if u really have the heart am and committed on finishing it. Worst case, consider it as a backup.
i have about 5k now. im quit my job on 14 nov, now jobless and still thinking wether to do small biz or to take ACCA, can bro and sis here advice me. Quite lost.
Sigh. Life is hard in Sing.

Quit your job in this kind of environment?
You got balls. ![]()
If you do ACCA after grad also start all over again in new industry.
Big 4s don't employ those above 30s for junior positions.
If you want to be CEO in a big MNC, Big 4 experience is an advantage.

Keep the 5k for survival and look for a job.
Starting and running a business takes more then 5k.
Taking ACCA from ground up, takes more then 5k.
If you are thinking that you dont want to be wasting time just waiting for a job to show up. Take cheaper certificate courses now & look for grants & sponsors for the courses. And keep watching out for jobs.
Try Chinese Development Assistance Council, or your clans, or your clubs, or lastly WDA for study grants.
The Taxi licence course and the licence is probably going to cost you $300/- plus.
A keyboarding/typing class is probably less then $100/-
A book on using accounting software is like less then $30/-; if you loan it from the public library is free.
If you have to start a business, do it small, from your own bedroom and work from there.
maybe you can teach tuition, package yourself decently and be prepared to earn 3 or 4k a month once you've got people to recommend you
