AWARE is a not-for-profit non-government organisation and is funded solely by donations, grants, and member subscriptions.

Gender equality? Ask them to serve NS first!
i never believe in the aims of AWARE anyway, or at least in Singapore
AWARE in Afghanistan or Iran would serve a better purpose

its just like malaysia or thai politicans
everyone want power, even if it means riots, protests or even refusing to budge when the electorate throws you out
the hostile takeover, to me, is a action taken by a group of like-minded individual with a different agenda from what AWARE was original set out to do.
on one hand the old guards were taken UNAWARE (pun unintended) of such takeover.
on the other had, the new exco definite isn't there just to take over a group, but to push their personal agenda. bear in mind that this new group is almost homogenous in outlook and doctrine.
from the outside, it does look like this group will push their religious agenda into a secular organisation.
What I'm not very happy about the organisation is the way they change their values. They said that they're not supportive of homosexuals, yet the original values were that they will not discriminate anyone irregardless of their sexuality.
If they want to retain the old values, surely the leaders up there must hold the same values isnt it?
And base on my gut feeling, I think those looks like power hungry people, they seem more keen on promoting feminism than gender equality ._.
Uncle is surprised reading some of the strident critisim and hostility towards AWARE here.
In uncle's opinion, this organization is good and deserve to be supported, including by Uncles like me.
Because uncle have a feeling that gender equality can be further improved.
When that happens, it will be good for the overall society, including for us, and also our daughters, nieces, etc so on.
AWARE if they can do something, let them do it, give them a chance and give them an understanding.

What you say do hold a stand. But somehow, I feel the way they take over, it's like not ethical? o.0
yeap i agree
let them be feminist, anti homosexual, and against ordination of women as priests/pastors at the same time

Perhaps there is some misunderstanding only.
Actually maybe this should be a wake-up all for all of us.
The reason AWARE made bad impression and bad feelings in your mind is because they are forming a group, an interest group, with a manifesto and an ideology, and which excludes you, and made you think you will lose something or that they will gain something by pushing or taking something away from you or the society.
In my opinion, this misunderstanding is rather regrettable and unneccessary.
Perhaps the Uncles like me should join AWARE as well. This will help to promote inclusiveness and prevent misunderstandings from fellow uncles.

Just read the news today, this urged me to write something regarding the issue discussed. It is my first time writing in a forum as I would want to have my view heard. Totally dismayed by the new members’ actions to grab the power of the organisation in such a way that it seems they want to use the organisation’s name for other purposes.
How could those voters vote 9 out of 12 positions for those newly signed up members and shockingly the 3 positions given to the old members, who have the previous experience and credibility in the organisation, were those that of “excess”. It made me believed that it seems the result of voting was known to the voters before it happen as it looked to be pre-organised.
This leads to question such as were they there to use aware branding for other purposes?? Certainly not the purpose of aware that the old exco have for the organisation, as not only they refused any help from the previously experienced exco but they also put a barrier between the ex exco and the organisation, which they had build it over years.
I also do agree with DBS for their latest action and I guess the episode does reflect badly on them in regard to FOCUS, not taking decisive action though their employee flouted co’s rule and having of their employee in a much debated controversy. Unless DBS see this episode as marketing tools yet I don’t see them gaining anything positive from it.

I read other forum’s thread which involves sensitive religious view as most of the new exco members seems to be connected via the same church therefore they questions their action in muscling into their current position within aware . Hopefully people who want to debate this issue is sensible enough not to take it too far as our country have diversity of religion. I just hope the episode will end well and there will be new election within aware with newly form committee are of various races, religious and culture, yet the same vision that aware was initially created. While those new members who want different mission can do so by creating their own organization and not tarnish aware’s reputation which is seen as a women group.
haa, then in this case, they should not be going under the name of Aware and pretending to be fighting for the rights of woman. Take their own initiative to start a new organisation with their own agenda.

i totally agree
Sorry but I dont think it is meaningful or relevant for you to bring up such internal political issue of the AWARE organization.
You need to know that any organizations will have some political issues, so it all depends on how well managed or well led the organization is.
If it is not solid or have problems, then, well, I dont know, it is not our business and we cannot comment anything on it.
Even some kids CCA can have political issues.
Just leave it be, unless if you are really so interested in it, well, it is not our business, you should maybe do some political maneuver inside.
I guess I've posted it in the wrong section, it should be under Speaker's corner instead. Then at least, it'll seem more legitimate for us to voice our own opinions as this have got politics involved?
