Now only got about 4.5 million people, our gov't wanted to have 6 million by 2015.
the population has already increase to 4.5~4.8 M ( close to 5 M ).
compare to the past about 2~2.5M ( 15 years ago estimate ).
So now Singapore everywhere you go of course very crowded.
I can say on an average one person see about 1500 people ( Stranger ) a day. ( travelling... walking or taking bus or ...etc

PRC's
China
compare it to the streets of tokyo... singapore is not that packed already...
Living standard in Japan Tokyo number 1 in the whole asia. ( maybe the world ).
Over Tokyo it's more convience to take train compare to taxi and car.
So many Japanese will take train to work. ( tokyo population close to 13M ).
of course super pack Tokyo just a city.
City life style the same everywhere fast pace . If you walk slow sure people overtake you...same when driving.... Those weaker heart better stay off the street.
the more people, the more there's a feeling of a family together
SG might be very crowded, but look on the bright side.
The more people we have, the more people will go shopping, and the more money we will earn.
Brueni is a very 'spacious' country, with more than 90% of the people living on only 10% of the land. Despite the fact that the people are rich ( or rather, the stuff there are cheap ), there is only one Mall ( Ironically, called The Mall ), which is much smaller than even Jurong Point. :P
As a result, business doesn't seems to be a major factor there, and roughly 85% of the males serve the government ( Mostly in military sectors ).
Okay, most of you are going to argue with me about their famous $1 healthcare services, their 30-cent per litre petrol and their literally free lands, but life there is very boring due to lack of entertainment, and my tour guide even joke that his people find their own 'entertainment' at night, resulting in many families having up to as many as 20 children.
Simply putting, having lots of people results in lots of:
1) Pubs, night clubs and outlets
2) libraries
3) Arcades
4) Swimming Pools, gyms, health outlets
5) Sentosa
Seriously, if the population is to be just 1/10 or lesser than what it is now, all the stuffs above will either be closed down or in VERY small quantities. ( Besides Sentosa )
The only people that benefit from this the most is the ruling party. hip hip hooray lhl is so successful to increase the population. he accepts any ah tee, ah kow, ah huay , ah lian.

There's no motivation for me to work hard when my low salary is tied with the low profile and low self estemm of myself.
There's no better suitable job for me to work when I open the papers to find.
Singapore is indeed too crowded.
The gov needs to increase the population so that they can sell the millions of condos popping up everywhere...
