No need to bend backwards to accomodate caucasians. If they are so mighty and powerful, they could start by speaking their own language properly
Asians always go over the top to please these people. Thats why some of them have the "Lord" mentality. They think Asia is a place to screw exotic women, cheap food and cheap products to consume and bring back to their pathetic abode so they can brag to their white trash friends that they have been here.
Not really....
try pronuncing tree and three....
once a sg mate of mine went to order fish and chip in a local shop in uk....
he asked for "three" fish & chip"....
that counter guy point him to the tree outside....
just like people whom dun pronunce "park" and "part"....
imagine asking where is the carpark... when the local heard "where is the car part"... and they relpy? what car part? Try comparing the queen's engilsh to the sing english..... and you start wondering why no news telecaster speak sing english....

Thats why i advocate the proper use and deployment of the English language. I speak English the same way to my local colleagues and the also to our foreign counterparts. Minor problems in pronunciation mostly, None that requires me to adopt a slang
Liiisten very carefully, I shall say this only once: The correct term is 'ACCENT', not 'SLANG'.

Language is a medium where humans use to communicate.
Slang or accent is the manner where humans use languages to communicate, by trying to mimic a native speaker. Sometimes work, sometimes FAIL
English is the language of choice in the world today. Learning a foreign language and talking to a native is a plus point, not a requirement

Ok we get you...why argue about semantics?

It's not semantics - it's different topics altogether, so no, I don't think you get him at all.

There's nothing technical about it. Slangs are informally-used words and terms while accents are a matter of diction.
slang or accent?

Really? i thought it was the way someone speaks a language.
Good to learn something new everyday
Once I was hanging out with this Ukranian guy. Unbelievable! He spoke English and I spoke English too, but we had such a hard time understanding each other. He was asking me about what things to do in Singapore
However our accent was so different, even the way we choose to phrase our sentences were so different. Now I have learned how to phrase my sentences properly at least to make communication somewhat possible. Really if you speak that way to locally, it sounds very weird. Imagine a strong guttural accent. Or the classical ccch.... sound that the Germans use.
Sometimes it is a little bit subconscious and not deliberate.
For instance when my cousins visit from HK, I often use different tones and I am prone to say "Mm-Hm" and I even sometimes check myself, why am I saying "Mm-Hm" so much, because that sounds fake and forced.
accent
Japanese accent
African accent
Fillipino accent
They all can be speaking English well, and from their accent you can recognise where they are from.
You dig man.
Now thats slang.
