i was walking along the narrow strip of pathway towards chinese garden mrt this morning and about to turn right to cross the zebra crossing when this guy on bicycle swoosh past my face at full speed!!!!!
if i had turned right to cross the zebra crossing a little faster, i would be dead in hospital by now (imagine full impact of adult man on bicycle at max speed slamming into you).
he missed me by a mere 1 inch.
this is not the first time liao....got 2 times like that also and quite fed-up.
is this pathway even for bicycles to cycle?!
also, got any gahmen department in SG where we can put our case to?!! ![]()
this is no joke; it's a matter of life and death.
imagine what can happen if it's a child.
thanks.
Damn, missed, should have killed you.
Google it to find your answer.

the skill is to kick the bike low then blame the rider for running over your foot.
since they are not suppose to ride their bikes on walkways, they also cannot do anything

They are only not suppose to.
But with all those healthy lifestyle schemes they have been trying to push onto the public.....so its a close one eye scheme for bicyclist to ride on the walkways.
Those truly involved in those schemes, are people that actually do take precautions about riding on walkways. But most are just arse holes who dont give a fart about whoever is using the walkway at the same moment.
And yah.....I really would have preferred to stick a stick into the wheels and watch those errant bicyclist sail and sommersaut thru the air.

The pathway is not for cyclists to use, but most of them do not care about it.
Quoted from ( err...somewhere ) :
In the event of a hit and run accident, the victim or witness
should note down the time and location of the accident, as well as
characteristics of the cyclist and the bicycle before lodging a report
with the Police. The Police will investigate the case accordingly."
It seems that you can report your cases directly to the police, but ironically it will be better for you to be knocked down first.
Nikar, great to know u posted sensible thread.
Ya, we all know the pathway is originally meant for pedestrians, humans to use. Sad to say the "kind hearted" govt have one or two years ago allowed cyclists to use the pathway as well.
Give thanks to the ruling party who always "have our interest and safety" in their hearts. They the bloody elites never use pathways to experience such incidents. Even if they do use pathways, they will be protected by many bodyguards. So they are always above and we are always below. Those below ones always suffer.

word of mouth is still better.
Like this also want to complain to Gahmen? Come on la.. Can't you guys seriously handle some small stuff by yourself. And seriously, Life & Death? LOL. You gotta be kidding me. I am a cyclist but I bike mostly on mountain bike trails. I wouldn't want to cycle on the pedestrian walkway anyway because the people walking on it are mostly uncouth, discourteous, rude and plain inconsiderate. Even when I clearly say "Excuse me" in a friendly manner, they will look and act as if they can't be bothered.
So some of you deserve that kinda treatment from the rude cyclists I would say.

He's a banglah btw.

stop teasing me on that old issue ok? i really regret totally for making that GST post. ![]()
you can get the cops on him.. but unless he smashes into people and hurt them, it's a minor misdemeanour and the cops probably won't do anything...
however, if the cyclist smashes into people in a walkway or pedestrian path, the cyclist is liable to a whole slew of things as a bicycle is still seen as a "vehicle" like a motorcycle.. to which the cops can choose to charge him with reckless endangerment causing injury or something like that...

Please if it is not that serious, i am not like that. Seriously, the govt are the ones that allow cyclists to cycle to share pathway with pedestrians. When I knew this I was fuming mad.
If you want confirmation, then contact LTA for it.

hey bro, to be honest, this is really not a small matter.
it's a very real ticking time bomb and already there are cases where people really got knocked down by cyclists in pathways meant for non-cyclists.
i mean, look. For my case, that guy on a bicycle should be approx 58 KG judging from his size. The bicycle....let's give it 18 KG. Total weight = 76 KG.
imagine a 76 KG object with a speed of 25 - 30 kmp/h slamming into the right side of a 50 KG guy. Imagine what will happen. I'm very sure i will end up with concussion and internal brain hamoharge.
if it's an old woman or a pri school child, i think their family will need to arrange funeral wake for them!
i applaude those cyclists who actually slow down their speed when they past me, or those who ring bells to warn you.....but this guy, and others like him, swoosh past me without realizing that if i turn left to cross that zebra-crossing.....$#^&%@
i phewed a sign of relief when i realized he missed me by 1 inch cos' his shirt actually touched me a bit.
and that pedistrain pathway is meant for humans to walk, otherwise how to go to chinese garden mrt? fly?
now i learnt a lesson: next time in such areas, before turning left / right, take 1 step back, the entire pathway no bikes, then turn.
and in case some of you guys didn't know, some time earlier this year, one lady wrote to ST Forum section about this problem and i don't remember any action done by the authorities to rectify this problem.
and btw, it's always those foreigners (PRC and banglah) that always invovled in this because a lot of them cycle to industrial area in Tuas / Joo Koon etc.
it's not i don't welcome them to Singapore, but i can't accept this kind of dangerous problems they're causing.
Mr. Lee Kill You, i suppose u want another shipload of foreigners to come to SG?
don't turn this into a xenophobic rant...
i got hit by a cyclist once... in a market!! the cyclist was an old man who then started to rant at me in hokkien for "blocking the way" when it was the middle of a market

lol, i got one time when this old man cyclist who was behind me, and he ringed at me.
but the sound of his bicycle bell is exactly like those car honks!!! when i hear that, i thought it was other car honking other car, and only later when he went past me and stare at me then i knew. ![]()

seriously, though.....if gahmen will really do something about this, i would have wrote to them long ago, but the thing is they will do nothing, and it's hard to enforce this as well (unless they station cops).
bicycle 18kg?
gotta be kidding

This is not a small matter? Ok lets look at this through a cyclist's point of view. Lets say you are right, pathways are only meant for people walking and not cyclists and that cyclists should stick to the roads.
You mentioned 76kgs hitting a 50kg body at 30kmph. Lets see, I am cycling on road, using your approximation, my total body and cycle weight is 76kgs. A simple car like vios or altis weighs 980kgs, plus the passenger(s) inside, it will be clost to 1,100kgs. It will be travelling at about 80kmph.
So.. 1,100kgs hitting 76kgs with 80kmph is acceptable? While yours is not? Isn't that unfair? =( Besides, if its a lorry, just fantastic, because the weight will be over 11 tonnes.
I cycle on road and face this constant danger because of people like you. I wear protective gear fully knowing that its of absolutely no use. I follow proper rules fully knowing that its of no use.
I am sorry to say but because of this kind of selfish mentality, there are honest and good cyclists who lose their lives on the road while trying to follow the stupid rules.
I knew one of them.
