Come to think of it, there are plenty of rich people in Singapore then.
The Korean and Vietnam Wars rubber boom created many rich people. Even the coolies are earning $300-500 a month. A terrace house then is only about $7000-$8000. Some amahs worked for the Brits soldiers owns quite a few houses too.
The ones that doesn't benefits much durings the 50s-70s are the small businesses and the hawkers. Anything angmohs were big fat profits. ![]()

Like the way you described it and that is the whole truth.
I actually had copies of my papa's NS cert and Birth Certs and Adoption papers.
Somehow, the scanning or the scanned format is wrong. So I have no choice but to delete those documents from my drives.
Too bad. And I just deleted them off just this morning! I no longer hold the hard copies.

Gulliemard road still around what. Pararell to Old Airport Road and adjacent to the Geyland lorongs.
And I kinda just sold off my Jalan Dua's flat last year.....so I roughly know lah.
I had a grandma that sold fake tooth and dental equipments and them families are still operating that business at Race Course Road. Temple of Thousand Lights....moha bodhi school.......
And my maternal side was or still in construction........my mother's favourite recollection of her youth is how she was always chauffered to school by a ahmad in a jagaur. We always were able to collect those red seeds from the sagara trees lining Katong area.
Ya... in the past only sg'reans and most probably... malaysians... now become rojak...

if you are refering to left turns, then you are 1/2 right there. Though you probably are talking of earlier times. Of roads or kampung nearby the same area.
Anyone remembers the big pond at Outram Park estate? There were a few tortoises there. And there was a Da1 Ren2 emporium at the estate.
I lost touch with all my school friends except for army friends.
