As a hobby I used to collect match boxes of Coffee Houses,Hotels and Restaurants that my family went but I have forgotten the names. Now that you mentioned Tropicana...I think it was at the Holiday Inn Scotts Road.
A few names have come up in my mind in the last few minutes like 'Skillet' which was located at Penang Lane and 'Tivoli' I went there a lot as a kid but forgot where it was.......need Mr Chew's help.

In the 60s-70s, I travelled north to Malaya to do business, mostly to KL and Kuantan and also to Palembang, Jambi, Cirebon and Semarang. When back home I usually tried to bring the kids out to Haw Par Villas, swimming and jogging in the reserviors area. Makan usually with the hawkers around Chinatown and some times across the Causeway.
Only occasionally I got to bring some biz clients to Neptune Theatre or Mayflower Restaurant in DBS Building. Not a pechant fan of restuarant food too.![]()

Most bird nests now are not the nice quality like those back in the old days. Many are those that make houses for them to roost and not wild taken.
Best wild nest come from around Bilitung and Bangka. Not into that biz but always get a sackful for mum and dad.
When was the last time you visited Cirebon?

I prefer old Cathay Building before renovation. After reno, it looks so "aloof"
Dunno, I don't go there anymore, the whole spacious feel is lost in that area.
