I find this 2 countries humanitarian responses to the EarthQuake in Haiti is a disgrace......Tiger wood alone donate 3 millions more than the countries combine!!!!
The Singapore government said on Thursday that it will make a contribution of 50,000 U.S. dollars in support of the international community's humanitarian relief efforts for earthquake-hit Haiti.
China's RED CROSS (a non profit organization) is donating $1 million. they send a plane of relief worker with Chinese Flag...but only contribute $1 million from a country with world largerest foreign reserved.
To Add:
I think Sg govt should act to send resecue team at the begining of the event.
If SAF can mounted complex military excerise overseas why can't the Govt gear up for a much smaller relief team.
I also think that there are similarity between SG and Haiti given that both are Island with limited resources and concrete building provide good learning curve on diseater relief from our Total civil defence organization.
Spore need money to pay peanuts to our mininsters and mps.
yeah is an irony they draw millions in salary and the way they provide the relief fund reflect taking...and milking.
The kind of Tunnel vision Lets hope one day when Singapore needs outside help.....what we give is what we received....$50,000
Dont say this haiti disaster.
Look at our very own local charity show, did the govt throw in money to support?
NO.
pls...i rather them donating 0 shut up do their things. Money donated will eventually come from our pockets in the disguise of rising prices.

Does Singaporean always thinking from the Pocket....? You can wait until one day when you need help....from outside and they think from their pocket!

of course which human being dun think from their pockets? Unless ur father is bill gates, I dun think money will be considered redundant to you.
singapore is a small country, however 'rich' you think we are.
there are 1001 disasters happening, one after another.
if the govt donate a big sum the same will be expected the next disaster and the next and the next.....
by then it will be a big burden on the coffers.
do you want to pay more tax?
when it comes to donation there is no right or wrong amount.
maybe tis haiti is like a not so well know
state ..
I dun even know that there such a place
call haiti exists in this world
Believe it or not
there will be more earthquake and one
mega tsunami coming soon

And that is why you always pay and pay.
No matter how big or small a donation, it is never a disgrace. Haiti will be taken care of by her neighbours and countries that have special interest in them. We can't save the world and cannot be expected to do so. We do however do what we can to help our neighbours, the way we did in the 2004 Tsunami and the 1998 financial crisis.
Singapore cannot donate too much $$$ to other ppl
later
1. no enough peanut for our MMS
2. not enough $$$ to buy china sportman to win medals
3.ERP will up again if Singapore no. 2 richest country rank dropped.
(if u dont know singapore is just behind japan in the world richest country,we are no 2. we have not billions but trillions in the banks)
4. gov will urge singapore like us to accept lesser paid jobs and work harder
5 they will just say "its their own business"

many sg ppl cant even save themself
now ,such as job losses etc
let alone saving the world now

Why should we citizens suffer for what the government did? Not like we ask them to give US$50,000...
Originally posted by BJK:I partly agreed a disgrace for Sg’s $50,000/ but China’s $1 million should be ok. None of the rich middle-east countries have pledged for funds or they are doing it quietly. Nevertheless, from past pledges for donations, most countries only lip-service but actually do not give . Just publicity stunt.
I applaud USA which is always quick to provide assistance in food and manpower.
Are you going to applaud the USA for taking over the only airport in Haiti and deny entry for the other countries' rescue team planes while trying to get her citizens out?
Every countries whose citizens are in Haiti would want to get their citizens out but why is USA hogging the only airport?
Most of the replies only reflect the smallness of singaporean can't see beyond outside the domain of the island and forgot to stick out their neck to see the direction and lost touch of the fact that humanity cut across nationalities.
What most people don't question is that if the Govt pass the buck to the people who is to blame? Comparatively SG are so willing to give the minister salary in the millions. Govt will always have a budget for disaster relief...
Most of you are so caught up with the environment that PAP has created such as a half a million dollar HDB which infact will collasped in Second for a similar size Earthquake. Or are too busy worried about the next pay check and forgot that when disaster struck you alone are nothing.....without outside help.

FYI the Haiti airport has not enough Jet Fuel to supply for return flight.....???

Asspahole
US$50,000 is also money - it is still tax payer money - our blood and sweat. You feel not enough - then lead by example give on your own.
You keep of thinking next time singapore need outside help .... you giving with motive.
Singapore is a little red dot - we are small. Face the fact ... a cat is a cat - try to be lion and will die.

Funny how you failed to mention personal contribution by average Singaporeans to the Haiti disaster...

I believe i am referring to the SG Government....not average singaporean....
In any case the Port Crane in Haiti has collasped and that the effective way to enter is thru the airport but the supplied of Jet fuel has ceased as such the only way is for flight to carry enough fuel for round trip....that limit the abilities to allow international flight into Haiti....

You seemed very eager to assume that the contribution from the Singapore government is going to be representative of how much Singaporeans would give.
