If you are in JC or poly, your time is better spent elsewhere than this thread.

dont say "where would you poly students end up?" thats a serious word ...JC is also crammed with O level students..dont tell me JC is crammed with A level students??if thats so,why would they study at JC??use your brain man.
People choses different route to walk, either long or short its your luck that bring you there w/o luck you think you'll pass PSLE??..there's 20% seats for poly students and 80%for JC and foreign talents. So don't complaint that you can't get into UNI ..cause its not the POLY'S student FAULT...
grow up man..dont complain so much..if you stand out in the JC's you will get in the UNI for sure..
P.S study harder
hi fucktard
how the fuck did you manage to infer from my post that "JC is crammed with A level students"?
O level students enter JC, A level students enter uni or other institutionsuse my own brain? fuck you. looks like you havent been using yours all the time?were u fucking born without one?
LUCK? WE NEED LUCK TO PASS PSLE? FUCK YOU! if so then whats the point of studying for all the tests and shit? OH WE JUST NEED LUCK, LETS KICK BACK AND RELAX AND LET LUCK DO ALL THE WORK FOR US
FUCK YOU
grow up? yea maybe. but maybe you should grow a brain for fuck sake
stand out in JC? come on, more than half the cohort at my college makes it to uni
YOU FUCKING CALL HALF THE COHORT "STANDING OUT?"
study harder?
heh
i secured my double degree programme at a local uni
how much harder must i study then YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE
i think you are a true fucktard.
there's 20% for diploma holders and 80% for the rest..if you are not sure of that,go ask your teachers or your M.P in your area.what has JC taught you?? 20% and 80% know what im trying to say??20% and 80%.
and is u r the one who say poly is crammed with O levels,so if i rephrase your line JC is also crammed with O levels.IF you want to say JC is full with A levels then poly is full of Diploma holders. retarded.
seriously???
Woah! Chill guys. No point getting so fired up over this.
In my opinion, I personally feel that the Poly students deserve more places than what is currently being allocated in the local universities. If they got a good enough GPA, I don't see why they don't deserve the right to enter the university! And this is coming from a JC student who didn't do well for his A levels. Similarly for the JC students, the universities should keep the numbers entering constant. I don't want to go into the part of foreign talents because that would spark off another huge debate. But by increasing spaces for both the Poly & JC students, everyone would be happy as more people from either Poly of JC can enter our local universities!
But that is easier said than done! Because the unis would have to factor in the larger influx of students and cater to all of them with their present resources and the appropriate scheduling and planning of timetables. But ultimately, it points down to whether the uni has more professors, more rooms, more equipment, etc.
As to which side has obtained the better skills or better knowledge in their respective institutions, my observations come from my poly friends all struggling with the engineering modules because their foundations in Math is not that desirable. As for the JC people, we suck at the lab portions because the poly people have done it before and are more hands-on back then when they were earning their diploma. I can't tell about the other students in business, science, law, etc faculties because I'm not in them. But there are certain trade-offs to the different paths you have taken. Different ways of obtaining skills, different techniques of acquiring knowledge. But one thing is certain. When you go out to the working world, what you learnt will either be forgotten or will not be applicable. But that is another story altogether...

i did not fucking state that "JC is full with A levels then poly is full of Diploma holders"
i never intended to say that. its fucking amazing how u managed to infer from my simple post made up of 2 sentences

dont get me wrong buddy, im not trying to belittle poly students
i was just wondering what the scenario would be like if diploma holders deserve to go to the uni over jc students as posted by threeseven earlier in this thread
i dont blame poly students for taking my place at the uni since i have already secured mine
i do admit that there are jc fuckers out there who complain about this but i do feel its their fucking problem. either they did not study or THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY FUCKING LUCK
i got 8 for Os by the way
i do believe that life has luck, JUST THAT YOU DONT RELY ON IT TO PASS YOUR EXAMINATIONS
GOD BLESS YOU TOO
Students complain when Os' single pointers filled up their dream course in Poly.
Students complain when scholar filled up the Uni seats.
When can we stop complaining and accept the fact that someone is more worthy deserves that place more than you. IF your score safely secure a place in Uni, good for you! Else, STOP whining and move on, the world does not revolve solely around you!
For one, ALL JC peeps have a choice to choose b/w Poly and JC, and you chose JC. If you flunk your A's, you can only blame yourself for not working hard and dont accuse the Poly students who performed better in the GPA to "steal" your seat in Uni.
Same to the Poly students, you were given a chance to do well in O's. But if you failed to or choice JC over poly, it's entirely your choice and no one placed a gun over your head and force it out of you. If you performed badly in ur GPA, why grumble that JC people get your slots in uni.
I think every Singaporean deserves an equal chance to receive a university education. We should not be asking whether priority should be given JC or Poly students. Like what eagle has said, we can not compare an apple against an orange. I think the only question is this: how many foreign student do we want to take in to our university. Inviting foreigners here to study no doubt create a competitive edge in our education system.. NUS is able to achieve a decent ranking among other university in the world because of the proportion of foreign students from a diversified range of countries. However, Increasing the competitiveness is one thing, and providing to our very own youth is another. Our government speak of building more university in the hope that more of our youth is able to obtain at least a degree qualification, except that is not entirely true. As the number of students that NUS, NTU and SMU take in increase over the years, so does the number of foreign student, and I personally believe the latter has increased greater in proportion - that is depriving some of us from our admission to local university. If your parents are wealthy they may send you abroad, but what if they can not afford?
i dun think much learned sporeans would wanna goto ntu or nus.failure rates there are high and u need to werk much more than as compared to overseas degree.
initially i thought nus or ntu was the only stuff but later on with correspondence degrees in spore from various overseas universities......makes nus or ntu sound like they are just another ordinary school fer a degree.
honestly...now....i seriously wouldnt study at nus or ntu even if they paid me to study there even.

Did you even study in NUS or NTU before? I guess not. The failure rates are not high if you put in the effort. And if an overseas degree is so much easier to get, I see no point in going to that uni to study. It defeats the purpose and challenge of true education. Taking the easy way out is not an option.
And if it's that easy to get a overseas degree, what's the point when many others will get the same as you? There wouldn't be any distinction between different people otherwise.

They are ordinary universities for that matter.
But you do not even understand what's the purpose of partnering with overseas universities.
honestly...now....i seriously wouldnt study at nus or ntu even if they paid me to study there even.
I was paid to study there.
You? Complain only. Can't qualify for Sg uni then say la.
well....i wouldnt study in nus or ntu if i was paid $100,000/year in cash....i would think about it if they paid me $300,000.///per year.
how much were u paid to study there per year?
remeber.....eagle......u had no choice but to study there....even if they paid you $80k/year in the form of free food and lodging.
please eagle......u go check it out with all those hardwerking ntu students.....most barely made it fer their semesteer exams in the past...sounds scary from looks of it.no......i think U SHOULD GO EXAMINE THE STUDENTS yerself ....hardwerking or not.....if they werent hardwerking in the past then they wouldnt be in nus or ntu.
im not complainin...im tellin u i wont go study at nus or ntu cuz they havent got what it takes.would rather study overseas......
nus or ntu is cheap but its not worth that kinda money and effort....if nus or ntu was expensive..no one would go there.
taking the easy way???i take only the no nonsense and most efficient way...anything else is a blatant waste of my time and effort.besides that most MNC companies in spore accept degrees from unrecogniosed university degrees...so the effort spent is not worth that china gal degree engineer who got her degree forgeed or not from a china unrecognised university.....
eagle,
yer strategy is flawed.in any battle u need to attack the enemy and to do so with the minimum casualty with the best effect is what matters most.anyone can qualify toi be in a university..its not like nus or ntu is as good as the illustrious MIT in the usa.
in using yer style of poor strategy........i can only see vast amounts of spore submerged in swamps and padi fields.......people will end up baked in the sun doing what generations b4 them did when spore was first founded by the british.prices of food will rise....people will jump off buildings frequently ....peoplewill end up skinny and no one will reproduce....same mistakes made would be repeated again n again every generatyions.......
NUS OR NTU IS SIMPLY A CHEAP ALTERNATIVE.......KINDA LIKE THOSE PIRATED DVD U COME ACROSS.HEY IT AINT EASY WATCHING IT WITH PROBLEMS but thats just what u are really getting.
eagle,
look at jonchao above....he studied from local university.............and he sounds like an insane butcher werking in an abbatoir in spore.....nope...they need to pay me more $$$$$$$$ to study in local university.....its the compensation needed in case i end up like him.
no offence jonchao.....but stress is slowly creeping onto u.ya should relax ...take a swim down at orchard road...
yawns
it's ok termie. Just believe in your excuses ok? ![]()
Yes I have no choice but to study there. I qualified for Cornell, but my family finances were insufficient for me to study there. Still, I managed to graduate and built up savings enough for me to study through NUS another 8 times over within 2.5 years ![]()
I dunno about the students there, but I found it rather easy to secure my first class honours from NUS, on top of 2 awards for my final year project ![]()
In fact, I took much more than the recommended amount of modular credits within the 4 years ![]()

Termie, if an unrecognized easy degree is what you want to aim for, and you feel proud having it, I have no comments. In fact, why even bother to study? Just buy a degree from a degree mill. You don't make any good sense here.

It's not indeed. I can easily qualify for the NUS-MIT masters program though, but I would rather come out to earn first.

Indeed, NUS or NTU are cheaper alternatives. I do not deny. But hey, why not go to Germany to study where their uni fees are even cheaper?

I thought you ended up in very bad shape. You sound rather insane to be honest with you.
