I saw some commercial, some vegan fanatics advocating everyone going on vegetarian. They say this is to save the earth. They also say global warming is due to we all eating too much meat.
How does eating veg and no meat save the earth? Why eat meat will harm the earth?
Say!
Apparently it has something to do with cows belching methane, which is a greenhouse gas.
And forests being cleared to make way for pasture for livestock.
cows belching methane?
How does this cause greenhouse effect leh?
Ya, I heard those ppl saying dunno what greenhouse effect. Didn't hear the whole thing though.
Time to lurk into the buddist forum

Actually there is some dispute about this "cow farting/belching methane" thingy.
Some say the effect is negligible.

Like I said, methane is one of the greenhouse gases. And apparently, cows belch quite a lot of methane daily.
And yes, this is quite a controversial point of contention among scientists.

so now blaming the poor cow for greenhouse effect omg ![]()

I won't bother.
If we eat more cows, there will be less methane belching.
Anyone measure the amount of gas released by 6 billion people per day?
what about every household got a fridge at home?
ask the vegans ALL take public transport 1st.
I heard that more suicides can help to go green as well.
Cos animals eat plants?
more meat consumption = more land needed for cattle agriculture = more land needed to grow plants for animal feed = more deforestation to make room = less trees = more carbon dioxide = global warming
Still got alot more reaons though....

can say the same for higher veg consumption
higher veg consumption =more land needed for agriculture = more deforestation to make room = less trees = more carbon dioxide = global warming
In addition, humans need to eat more veg to feel full.
Not to mention the huge effect this would have on the food chain if everyone turned vegetarian.
So end result = apocalypse
Might as well eat and be happy.

cattle industry = land for cattle + land for animal feed
Agriculture = land for plants ( includes fruit trees). At least plants give out oxygen....
Btw, I'm not vegetarian anyway, just wanna answer TS on why cattle industry cause global warming.. But I would say the more serious problem is factory pollution..

playing devils advocate?
No la, just feel that it is always good to make my stand on things clear before anything happens... This is ..... cyber anyway...must cover backside well ![]()
population control is a solution but a socio-political taboo.
FYI there is a growing school of thought that the whole greenhouse gas theory is complete BS. There was a scandal recently involving the Climate Research Unit (CRU) known as "Climate Gate" whereby scientists were caught concealing evidence that contradicted the current greenhouse gas theory.
The long and short of it is, going by the fact that the earth warms and cools in predictable cycles. Man's presence on earth, combined with all the methane cows are farting out, has succeeded in raising the world's temperature by 1 Degree Celcius off the expected temperature if man had never risen to power.
Man doesnt have to do anything to reduce CO2 Emissions. Oil will run out in 100 years time. By then we will prob be surviving off Hydrogen or solar power by then. A much cleaner solution.

yup

Hey! you know the news! I know something on disappearance of sunspot, not sure it's true or not.
No sunspot = decrease temperature of the sun = temperature of earth drop = no global warming..
Growing Cows for their meat is also inefficient. These cows have to be fed for years with grain before they are big enough for slaughter and consumption. So there are arguments that the amount of food used to feed cattle can actually feed the starving people in the 3rd world!
As for most efficient sources of protein, the argument is "eat bugs." Insects grow fast and in huge numbers while being an excellent source of protein.
In short
