Agree. Dialect is our real mother tongue, mandarin is not.
Speak dialects preserve one's roots.
mandarin was the dialect of Beijing residents in the past. Afterwards became common language of people in China.
Mandarin was a dialect? Wow! What did the Beijing people normally speak then? Anyway, both my parents and my entire family and relatives all speak Cantonese, including me. Cantonese is our primary language, although I seem to be more fluent in English.
i speak hokkien, cantonese, english (my standard is: i could write and did write a phd thesis in english), mandarin (my standard is: i can write articles in chinese), japanese, vietnamese
ahem hao lian hor
Time has changed, now the younger Singaporean Chinese parents talk to their children in English.
I think some years later, the PRC-turned-Singaporean parents will be the only one talking to their children in Mandarin.

I can only speak hokkien, understand abit of cantonese...
