Are forums a dagerous place?

i find sgforums a rather interesting place.....
there seems to be different sub-communities, where the regular cliques are like old pals.... e.g. there are some crap-box threads where regulars go in and wish each other good morning, good afternoon and good night, and ask if they makan already... and then there is this bus clique where regulars seem to give a detailed account of every bus they have taken for the day, and which bus is being deployed where... i can never figure out why, but i guess everyone has different interests and hobbies
and then there are regular commentators who would comment on just about every topic... they seem to be the real knowledgeable ones who have a view on everything....
and there is one who is perpetually on the shoutbox, seemingly talking to himself most of the time...
its interesting.....
but anyway, i think forums are in danger of being overtaken by other newer social media, like the facebook or twitter types, which seem so much more connected and real-time then the traditional forums....
