Anyone here facing the same fate as me i.e. spending lots of money on Maths tuition for your child and still getting no improvement?
From tuition in a small class to private tuition at home, it was still fruitless.
Where does the problem lie? Who should be held responsible?
In my own opinion, if the child does not learn, it is the teacher's inability to teach well.
Just my 2 cents worth.
no matter how much you pay for tuition, you can't change the fact that you are lazy and stupid.
Sometime it is the parents harrassment, that cause the child to have a mental block.
parents giving the child too much stress.
Usually somebody else child is relaxed and happy and learns wonderfully. Other parents then want their child also to be as learned, and so pressure their child to perform better.
A child learns easily, but is difficult to teach.
At the very least, it keeps the economy going...
Please keep in mind that tuition is only feeding the ducks... its not really helping on education of the subject(person).
As a private tutor, I can say this:
If the student is lazy and couldn't give a sh*t about his work, even Stephen Hawking himself cannot do anything for him.
If the student is hardworking and willing to learn, then tuition can be a very good thing.
The same goes for my students. Those students of mine who benefit the most are those who pay close attention to what I teach and put in their best effort.
Meanwhile, those students of mine who benefited the least are those whose minds are in another galaxy while I teach and just couldn't give a damn about their own work.
So before you go around pointing your finger at the tutor, it would be good for you consider whether your own child might be the problem.
parents would blame teacher no good
teacher would say is the child himself no want cooperate, parents do not know wats going on
child say parents and teachers giving too much stress, schoolwork already cannot breathe liao still got so much tuition homework. if no do cannot watch tv or play computer.
Tution is not useless, not following the advice given at tution would render it useless.
Tution is useful and important. The problem lies with the child.
It is like the computer who does not respond to you. It hangs and automatically run on its own. Even an expert computer engineer cannot deal with problem if the computer is not responsive.
Tuition is not miracle. Student with help from tuition work hard and smart to get good results.

Tuition is useful to some extend... I believe both the tutor and the child must put in the effort in order to achieve the results.
But i see alot of tuition teacher in singapore that are after money instead of sincerely helping the student.
Also, if u were to change tutor like once every 1 or 2 months. I dun think you will see an effect on the child's progress. Cos the child will be so busy trying to adapt to so many different teaching methods.
I have been tutoring for around 4 years. So far, all of my student's grade did improve after i taught them. However i'm only teaching secondary school kids. Perhaps they are easier to handle as compared to primary school kids.

too bad, the world is too competitive
everyone at fault...
tutor didn't open the mind of the child.
parent didn't try to understand the child and his/her learning method.
child was not aware of own weakness and strenght and how to capitalise on it...
Tuition is useless if the student's mind isnt accepting it.
You can hire all the elite tuition teachers from all over the world, if your child thinks about playing games etc and not wanting to understand the concepts nothing is going to happen. Its the mindset.
" if the child does not learn, it is the teacher's inability to teach well ".
Usually, the sentence should be " if the child does not learn, it is the child's unwillingness to revise work/pay attention/accept the teacher's teachings "

it depends, for primary school, you can threaten to call their parents. for secondary, no hope
