there's no guarantee for the child even if the wife is already a PR because it's subject to approval from ICA.
there's no such thing as "sure auto PR" since PR status is a 5 years term, subject to renewal.
if it's rejected, then your family can only send appeal letter.
there are cases where the foreign wives of citizens are not given PR despite many appeal letters written by MPs. the wives are only given long term pass to stay here, and must return back to their country again and again, and also to re-apply for the long term pass again and again.

That's music to my ears, YES! Heard this days harder to get PR than compared to 3 years ago. Thanks everyone for the useful help (not all though).
There is/was something called landed PR for extremely talented people.

I sincerely hope ICA rejects some of these losers PR request to renew their PR. some of them don't deserve it at all.
