If the teacher did something wrong, like hitting the child etc then its ok to make a police report, but CUTTING HAIR?? And why would a kid need a $60 hair cut anyway? My most expensive is $8 only..
hmm, u shouldn't mix army and sch nia....
Army = discipline (order u to fight war, u just follow command; don't qns)
School = Knowledge (u discuss/decide why war is necessary)

This is the direction we are headed becoz kids cannot take hardship nowadays, and the easiest way is to blame everyone else... Push ppl off teh bus etc...
I no need my kids to be able to take hardship either. In mordern society, the pen is mightier than the sword.
I no need my kids to be Hitler or Kim jong il; I want them to be Bill Gates or Chad Hurley.
I see some uncle with big tummy labelling Korean male idols as 'gu niang'. Hello! look at your tummy, look at their muscle/money/girls.........
yeah. sch shd not teach discipline. cos parents shd.

HOW U EXPECT SINGAPOREANS TO BE CREATIVE? we behave like robots since a child.
dude noone said you cant be creative. If youre still at primary level of your education and your parents have already started pampering you like that, its definite that you wont grow to be a good person. you gotta be disciplined at that level so that when youre at your tertiary stage, you will know how to keep yourself balanced between looking cool and being disciplined at the same time. the rest is up to you. Singaporeans are easily influenced by western culture, we try to be like them, look like them. always comparing asian and western cultures. with proper discipline, they would know how to balance it off rather than going off track.

Head is a banana, what to do?
If the head is rotten, it will affect the body.

Tell me, any wrong with this boy(asian) hair.....? I see nothing wrong. Is he a soon-to-be delinquent?
PSLE oral score affected because of long hair? Are looks part of the grading system?
Imo, our rigid education system more has more or less hinder creativity.
Let's face it, in terms of creativity, we are way behind Taiwan and Japan. Why? are we dumber? My ans is no. It's the way we are brought up: we are intimidated, we simply follow instructions...
If we don't improve, we can continue to heavily rely on foreign MNC; carrying on working under a Japanese/ang mo bosses, allowing them to exploit us with lower pay...
no one mentioned that the boy was given a warning letter two days before incident
to have his hair cut by deadline
but he didn't give to his parents
when the reporter asked the boy
the boy told the reporter about the letter
and the reported told the mum
the mum shrugged and said that the boy is dylexic and dylexics are forgetful
i think the mother also deserves to have her hair cut off
and the boy taken away from her by MCYS because she has shown she is unfit to be a parent...
these days.. to adopt a pet from the SPCA, you need to show that you are a responsible pet owner but any asshole with no sense of responsibility can have a child

Your point of reference is unacceptable, if only you had put in more effort in doing your research. prove us that this kid is not a child model, not at all involved in any type of media industry and that he was just walking in the park where someone decided to snap their picture and upload it on the web. and please its not for nothing that our country's education is one of the best. schools were much more strict last time, they are already giving students alot of freedom and yet they look for something to complain about. now they will let them keep stylish hair, next they will complain about above ankle socks. this will never end.
Oh btw, foreign MNCs give better benefits and salary compared to local MNCs. and again, do your research properly.

1. PSLE oral score can be affected if the examiner has a poor first impression of you. Seriously. We expect examiners to be fully objective, but they are also human.
When teachers tell you to make sure you dress properly and have a proper haircut before your oral exam, they are not doing it to tekan you. They are trying to prevent you from getting tekan-ed by their colleagues.
2. Looks are not part of the grading system, but again, refer back to point 1. Also, one can say that this is also part of a child's education; if you show up for a job interview with a sloppy hairstyle, then you don't deserve the job.
3. Sigh.... the so-called 'creativity' argument. If your level of creativity is determined by the hair on your head, then you seriously don't have creativity to begin with. ![]()
For point 2: The boy cannot be defined as 'sloppy'. It didn't meet the school standard(which is too strict for me), does not mean he looked sloppy. Furthermore, in job interviews, looks are part of the consideration. Your potential employer is looking for charisma - beauty will be part of the 'x factor'. If u look at some HR papers, u might find looks are indeed part of the grading.
For point 3: Shor hair is one obvious instance of our rigid system. While it appears insignificant, creativity cannot be nurtured in an intolerant surroundings - if ur society cannot even tolerate longer hair, what do u expect? Creativity requires you to question the tradition, recreating the norms. Can we do that? Let's look at an extreme example - North Korea. Their school requires them to have very short hair. Their dictatorship continues to instill fear in their people. Are they creative? My answer is no. Are they unintelligent? Again, no. Why are their neighbour - South Korea - much are sucessful(both people have the same genes)? It's the way they are brought up.

For point 2, if you don't meet the standards, then you are sloppy. If the prospective employer thinks your hair is sloppy, then it is sloppy, end of story. He will then give your job to someone else with a neater hairstyle.
No one cares what you think when you are the one being evaluated.
For point 3, as FI said, there is no link between what you said and the ability to be creative. You still have not shown how the hair on your head affects your ability to think.
And like I said, if the hair on your head psychologically impairs your ability to be creative, then the real problem lies in yourself.
Who's the better of two people - one who cannot think because his hair is too short, or one who can think in spite of his hair being too short?
he thinks he's like Samson!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ![]()
Don't give me BS about haircuts affecting creativity. They're just vain statements that you think represent you, when all you did was tell the hairdresser to copy the look of some celebrity you saw in the media. Real creativity is when you can come up with a unique look that looks good on you in spite of your head shape and restrictions.
I kinda pity the kid.
Thanks to social media and the mother, he'll be forever known as "$60 haircut Ryan Ang".![]()
I think people should be wary of getting themselves or their pictures in the news for the wrong reasons.
With the internet now, your future employer can dig out old news and reports about your school life, family life, relatives and friends you have or had when you were 6 or 14 or 27 or 46 years old and see what kind of person you are.
Then you will become very stressed.
Imagine going for a job interview next time and then the interviewer shows you a news report about your mum calling the police because of your hairstyle when you were in Primary 6. ![]()
Mom was also an idiot, this type of petty stuff also make police report.

hmm.. You didn't get me. It not plainly about hair style/length. It's the freedom to express urself(within acceptable boundary).
If u have no rights to keep a hairstyle u want(a simple and easy thing), do u think we would have the rights to express ourselves in other things?
Why are our trade unions so weak? Why opposition parties so weak? Why our sg media/press reports non-critical on our politician and their policies? Why do we have zero protest all year round? No dissent in sg? Sg = perfect?

you first day in Singapore ar?
no... I am trying to imply that the answer all those lies on the restriction to express ourselves.
12 year old kids get $60 haircuts?![]()
I am almost triple his age and I get my hair cut for 10 bucks, and i definitely look more handsome than that.![]()

So now you're saying that lack of freedom of hairstyle in school is a slippery slope that leads to weak trade unions, an ineffective political opposition, a non-critical press, and lack of political activism among the masses. ![]()
Excuse me while I get my friends to come and see your post. ![]()
