A man was arrested for going from door-to-door selling ice-cream under the pretext of the Yellow Ribbon Project.
A STOMPer had come across the report of the man's arrest, which was circulating on facebook.
Although it was announced on September 12, 2012, on the Singapore Police Force website, the advice there is still relevant today.
Police were alerted by a resident who bought two boxes of ice-cream from the 23-year-old man on September 10, 2012, at about 9pm, at Block 143, Tampines Street 12.
The man claimed he was an ex-convict and he was selling ice-cream as part of the fundraising initiative under the Yellow Ribbon Project. He would also produce a letter purportedly from the Yellow Ribbon Secretariat as proof.
Part of the sales proceeds would be channelled to help the ex-convicts reintegrate into society, the man informed residents.
However, after making a check, the resident found that there was no such fund-raising activity by the Yellow Ribbon Project, and immediately alerted the Police who managed to promptly arrest the suspect in the neighbouring vicinity.
On Sep 5, 2011, a STOMPer also wrote in regarding a group of three teenagers who approached residents to buy a $20 box of ice-cream for the Yellow Ribbon Project. -
